About The Position

The Charge Nurse at CHI St. Vincent oversees a department of frontline nurses and helps ensure the team delivers high-quality patient care. The role draws on acute care experience to support nurses, patients, families, and unit operations. The Charge Nurse advocates for and mentors nursing staff, communicates effectively with individuals and groups, and addresses performance and unit needs. The position also involves engaging visibly with the floor, sharing information about initiatives and improvement areas, and monitoring departmental productivity and efficiency.

Requirements

Registered Nurse license in Arkansas upon hire.
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification within 30 days.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within 90 days.
Two years of acute care experience required.
Accountability, confidence, and strong communication skills in one-on-one interactions and group settings.
Comfort with holding difficult conversations and responsibility for staff and unit performance.

Responsibilities

Serve as both a leader and a teammate.
Ensure direct reports and the department are positioned to deliver the best possible patient care.
Maintain a high level of engagement on the floor by connecting with nurses, patients, and families.
Attend leadership meetings to learn about initiatives and improvement areas, then share relevant information with the team.
Monitor departmental productivity and efficiency.
Mentor team members, including assistant nurse managers and charge nurses, by sharing knowledge and confidence.
Advocate for fellow nurses and support their professional growth in alignment with departmental operational goals and objectives.
Address the performance of staff and the unit, including holding difficult conversations when needed.
