About The Position

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at OHSU is seeking an energetic physician to join its Neurocritical Care and Neuroanesthesia teams. This role involves providing tertiary care to neurologically injured patients at OHSU, a leading academic health center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. The position offers a unique practice environment within a state-of-the-art 17-bed Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (NSICU), which admits a diverse range of critically ill neurological patients. The faculty in the NSICU includes specialists from anesthesiology, neurology, and neurosurgery. The appointee will contribute to OHSU's missions in teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service, with an expectation of demonstrated competence in at least one of these areas and potential for academic accomplishment. Teaching responsibilities include lectures and mentoring trainees through modeling best practices and delegating responsibilities. Professional performance must adhere to all relevant regulatory guidelines. The role may also involve scholarly research, educational development, public service, and departmental administration.

Requirements

Residency training in Anesthesiology.
Board certification/eligibility in Anesthesiology.
Certification or eligibility for certification in Neurocritical Care.
Demonstrated competence in patient care.
Demonstrated competence in teaching.

Responsibilities

Provide clinical services at OHSU hospitals and collaborate with affiliated health systems.
Provide excellent perioperative care and anesthesia services using state-of-the-art technology.
Facilitate pre-operative assessment using electronic data collecting systems.
Work in care teams with fellows, residents, and nurse anesthetists in the operating rooms.
Provide pre- and post-operative care under medical supervision.
Care for patients in the cardiovascular, neurosciences, and virtual intensive care units.
Provide comprehensive and critical care in the ICU.
Provide tertiary care to neurologically injured patients.
Admit and manage patients in the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (NSICU).
Teach trainees and support staff in areas of professional expertise through lectures and modeling best practices.
Mentor trainees and guide their learning through graduated and focused levels of responsibility.
Deliver an outstanding level of professional performance in compliance with all regulatory guidelines.
Treat all patients, research subjects, trainees, and co-workers with dignity and respect.
Maintain a program of scholarly research activity directed toward improved understanding of diseases (optional).
Develop and direct scholarly research activities focused toward improving the educational foundation within anesthesiology and perioperative medicine (optional).
Engage in public service through consultative activities (optional).
Participate in additional departmental or hospital administration (optional).
