About The Position

Banner Health's new Nurse Extern program offers nursing students graduating within 12 months hands-on clinical experience. Under the supervision of an RN preceptor, nurse externs will practice skills such as patient assessment, medication administration, IV pump adjustments, parenteral fluids, blood products, IV flushes, initiating/titrating/discontinuing oxygen, and basic data collection in an EMR. Externs can also practice skills for which they have received instruction and can provide evidence of a skill checklist. The program allows externs to spend time with a clinical case manager, observe procedures, and participate in other relevant patient care activities. Banner Health aims for externs to continue as New Grads in their selected unit after graduation and licensure. This program provides an opportunity to gain skills and grow before receiving an RN license.
