About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented Field Test Engineer to be involved in all Quality Assurance activities including LTE and 5G field protocol testing and SIM OTA activation testing. The main function of this role is to develop and execute test strategies and plans, validating UE functionality on 4G/5G air interface and call processing technology. You will ensure that the User Equipment (UE) is meeting QA and Carrier requirements. This role is responsible for performing detailed analysis of 4G and 5G protocols, including field testing with mobile handset devices (Android primary; iOS acceptable) in live networks.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in technical related field
  • 2-5 years of experience in 3G, 4G, 5G, LTE preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for this role — daily reporting, issue documentation, and team coordination are core responsibilities
  • Strong problem-solving, customer service, and interpersonal skills; able to work independently
  • Solid understanding of end-to-end LTE and 5G network architecture
  • Strong knowledge of 4G and 5G air interface and call processing technologies, specifically focused on the Radio Access Network
  • Hands-on experience with UE log capture and post-processing tools such as Accuver (XCAL/XCAP), QXDM, QCAT, Wireshark, and Spirent tools, with a good understanding of OTA signaling messages
  • Able to analyze and debug IMS-related features including but not limited to registration, VoLTE/VoWiFi/ViLTE/Conferencing/SMS/MMS/RCS
  • Previous experience in post-processing UE logs and analyzing various KPIs
  • Previous LTE and 5G NR field test experience in live networks using Android (or iOS) devices
  • Good knowledge and familiarity with 5G NSA and SA
  • Previous test experience with SIM OTA activation

Responsibilities

  • Able to work in mobile work environment (80% time working in vehicle/field, 20% in office)
  • Perform drive testing and stationary field testing across designated regions in Washington State
  • Capture, post-process, and analyze UE logs using industry-standard tools (Accuver XCAL/XCAP, QXDM/QCAT, Wireshark, Spirent tools)
  • Aid in product & feature performance analysis and evaluation of new product & SW releases
  • Responsible for analyzing and troubleshooting issues reported from customer labs, field sites, and production networks
  • Review and provide recommendations to improve UE performance by evaluating and trending key KPIs, performing trials, and providing optimization guidelines
  • Communicate test progress, daily status updates, and clear issue reports to the engineering team and project lead
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Set up test plans to meet deadlines based on requests from the project lead
  • Able to determine risk items based on issues found during testing
  • Able to travel 25% of the time
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record
