About The Position

Black Box Network Services is seeking a Network Infrastructure Technician with a proven track record in structured cabling environments. The role involves installing, testing, and certifying structured and patch panel cabling, including single and multi-mode optical cabling, and copper cable according to IEEE and BICSI standards. The technician will also be responsible for decommissioning obsolete cabling, working with elevated and underfloor cabling trays, and assisting in troubleshooting network equipment and cabling. This position supports facilities management, site security, and project engagement, requiring a motivated and self-driven individual committed to high-quality work and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Appropriate equipment training with high-speed fiber optic transport.
  • Ability to clean high-speed single and multi-mode optical connections.
  • Ability to measure, transmit, and receive on high-speed optics.
  • Knowledge and experience to work safely with high-speed single mode long range optical lasers.
  • Experience with Fluke Versiv Mainframe.
  • Experience in working in data centers and communications closets.
  • Must be able to safely lift heavy objects.
  • Must understand cable patching processes and procedures.
  • Proven success troubleshooting layer 1 network concerns.
  • Must be willing to work shift work which includes nights and weekends.

  • At least 1 year of experience in a data center environment.

Responsibilities

  • Installing, testing, and certifying structured and patch panel cabling in a data center environment.
  • Installing single and multi-mode optical cabling.
  • Inspecting and cleaning installed optical cabling.
  • Installing copper cable to IEEE and BICSI cabling standards.
  • Testing installed cables using a Fluke Versiv Mainframe.
  • Decommissioning obsolete networking cabling infrastructure.
  • Working with elevated and underfloor cabling trays.
  • Assisting in troubleshooting network equipment and cabling.
  • Patching cabling between network equipment and customer’s network.
  • Installing power cables from equipment to power supply in rack/cabinet/closet.
  • Installing, troubleshooting, and de-installing network equipment.
  • Install/swap out cables, switches, routers, and etc.
  • Completing all hard and complex Move, Add Change (MAC) requests within the defined service levels.
  • Providing infrastructure cabling break-fix services for network infrastructure.
  • Performing layer 1 troubleshooting.
  • Supporting carrier testing of circuits.
  • Assisting with facilities efforts.
  • Power and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) restoral.
  • Addressing water problems.
  • Emergency cooling restoration.
  • Handling fire suppression exercises, restoration, and post fire events.
  • Acting as an interface between associates at the applicable location and centralized project/operations/MAC management.
