About The Position

The Network Technician – Copper & Fiber Specialist is responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic network infrastructure supporting the Willow Development. This role focuses on the physical layer of the network, including structured cabling systems, fiber optic transport, labeling, testing, and accurate documentation, while supporting site networking and telecommunications connectivity in a challenging Arctic environment and maintaining alignment with corporate standards. This is a North Slope-based rotational role working a 2 week on/2 week off schedule supporting the Willow Project.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Current/valid driver’s license
  • 5 or more years of experience supporting copper and fiber optic infrastructure in an industrial or enterprise environment
  • 1 or more years of experience with fiber optic transport technologies, testing, and troubleshooting
  • 1 or more years of experience maintaining accurate cable plant documentation and as built records
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to work in a remote work location on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off work schedule

Nice To Haves

  • BICSI Technician, FOA CFOT, or equivalent copper/fiber certifications
  • Cisco CCNA certification or equivalent foundational networking knowledge
  • 1 or more years of experience performing elevated or tower work to maintain communications systems
  • Intermediate knowledge of network monitoring and management tools such as SolarWinds Orion and Cisco Prime
  • Intermediate knowledge of IP‑based video surveillance and access control cabling
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Ability to adapt to new tools, techniques, and technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results, meet commitments, and adhere to deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, label, and test copper (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A) and fiber optic cabling (single mode and multi mode).
  • Perform fiber splicing, polishing, and enclosure management.
  • Conduct OTDR, power meter, and copper/fiber certification testing.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot patch panels, fiber distribution frames (FDFs), network cabinets, and pathway systems.
  • Assist with troubleshooting physical layer connectivity issues impacting site networks and critical operational systems.
  • Develop, update, and maintain accurate copper and fiber documentation, including cable schedules, strand assignments, labeling records, and as built drawings.
  • Ensure documentation is updated for all moves, adds, and changes to the cable documentation.
  • Maintain accurate cable plant and network asset inventory in ServiceNow.
  • Support audits by validating physical infrastructure against documented records.
  • Provide day to day support for LAN/WAN, and Wi Fi connectivity related to copper and fiber infrastructure.
  • Support structured cabling and physical connectivity for operational, industrial, and business network services as required.
  • Utilize network monitoring and approved diagnostic tools to assist in troubleshooting cabling and connectivity issues.
  • Assist with copper and fiber cable plant design, routing, and capacity planning for new and existing facilities.
  • Plan and perform cabling maintenance and upgrade activities to minimize impact to North Slope operations.
  • Work with vendors to develop Bills of Materials for cabling and network projects.
  • Coordinate with internal Supply Chain partners to procure materials, equipment, and services.
  • Develop and provide end user or site training related to cabling and connectivity as required.
  • Actively participate in ConocoPhillips safety processes and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Take ownership of assigned work and follow through on commitments.
  • Collaborate with global IT, telecom, and network peers to maintain alignment with corporate standards.
