This position will be based in Ashburn, VA. We are seeking a hands-on Network & Systems Engineer to support infrastructure across on-premises data center and AWS GovCloud environments. This position is ideal for an IT professional who has foundational experience with enterprise networking and systems administration and is looking to expand their skills across networking, Windows Server, virtualization, cloud infrastructure, and cybersecurity. The successful candidate should have strong technical fundamentals, troubleshooting skills, and a willingness to learn. This role will work alongside senior engineers and other technical teams to support, maintain, secure, and improve mission-critical infrastructure. Candidates are not expected to be experts in every technology listed below, but should be comfortable learning new technologies and progressively taking ownership of technical responsibilities.

Requirements

Bachelor's (or equivalent) with 2 - 4 years of progressively responsible experience in network engineering, systems administration, infrastructure engineering, or a comparable technical role.
Working knowledge of TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, and general network troubleshooting.
Hands-on experience supporting Cisco or comparable enterprise networking technologies.
Experience administering or supporting Microsoft Windows Server environments.
Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, Windows permissions, and authentication.
Experience troubleshooting technical issues involving networks, servers, operating systems, or applications.
Basic PowerShell or other scripting experience and an interest in developing automation skills.
Understanding of common cybersecurity concepts including patching, vulnerability management, least privilege, system hardening, and access control.
Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and progressively take ownership of technical responsibilities.
Ability to work effectively with senior engineers, technical teams, customers, vendors, and external partners.
Strong technical documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to lift, install, and manipulate physical IT and network equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for required local travel.
Must meet applicable U.S. Government personnel security and system-access requirements.
Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a Level 2 Public Trust background investigation/suitability determination as required for access to federal government systems and information.
Continued assignment may be contingent upon maintaining the required federal suitability determination and system access.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware, or another enterprise virtualization platform.
Exposure to AWS, AWS GovCloud, Azure, or another cloud platform.
Familiarity with AWS services such as EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and Systems Manager.
Experience with Cisco switches, routers, wireless infrastructure, or firewalls.
Familiarity with PowerShell automation.
Experience with vulnerability scanning or management technologies such as Tenable or Nessus.
Exposure to SIEM/logging platforms such as Splunk or comparable technologies.
Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53, DISA STIGs, continuous monitoring, or other government cybersecurity frameworks.
Experience supporting government, regulated, healthcare, financial, or other security-conscious environments.
Familiarity with Linux administration.
Cisco, Microsoft, AWS, CompTIA, or cybersecurity certifications are preferred but not required.
Equivalent hands-on experience, technical training, home labs, military experience, or demonstrated technical ability will be considered.

Responsibilities

Support the configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Cisco network infrastructure, including switches, routers, VLANs, routing, ACLs, VPNs, and wireless technologies.
Troubleshoot common network connectivity issues involving TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls, and application communications.
Assist with connectivity between on-premises infrastructure, AWS GovCloud, customers, government partners, and external systems.
Use network troubleshooting and monitoring tools such as ping, traceroute, PowerShell, Netstat, packet captures, Wireshark, and network management platforms.
Assist with maintaining network configurations, diagrams, inventories, technical documentation, and operational procedures.
Support installation, replacement, configuration, and troubleshooting of physical network and server equipment.
Support Microsoft Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, certificates, permissions, authentication, and Windows services.
Assist with server builds, configuration, patching, upgrades, vulnerability remediation, system hardening, and lifecycle management.
Support Microsoft Hyper-V and virtualized server environments.
Troubleshoot Windows operating system, authentication, application, and infrastructure issues.
Use PowerShell for system administration, troubleshooting, configuration, and basic automation.
Assist senior engineers with system upgrades, migrations, deployments, and infrastructure projects.
Support AWS GovCloud infrastructure including EC2, VPCs, subnets, route tables, Security Groups, IAM, S3, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Systems Manager, and related AWS services.
Assist with troubleshooting connectivity between AWS GovCloud and on-premises infrastructure.
Support Windows and Linux EC2 instances, including patching, monitoring, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Assist with AWS networking, security configurations, DNS, certificates, and application connectivity.
Learn and support Infrastructure as Code and automation technologies used to deploy and maintain cloud infrastructure.
Work with senior engineers to implement infrastructure requirements provided by internal teams, customers, and external partners.
Assist with infrastructure security, vulnerability remediation, system hardening, patch management, and configuration management.
Support environments operating under federal cybersecurity and compliance requirements.
Assist with implementation and validation of security requirements based on standards such as NIST SP 800-53 and DISA STIGs.
Work with vulnerability management, SIEM/logging, endpoint security, firewall, and network security technologies.
Review vulnerability findings with senior technical staff and assist with remediation and validation.
Assist with security assessments, audits, continuous monitoring, incident response, and compliance evidence collection.
Maintain technical documentation supporting cybersecurity and compliance requirements.
