About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This role is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and implementing technical security controls to prevent, detect, contain, and respond to network security threats. The engineer will build, configure, and maintain network security systems to ensure operational environments remain compliant and secure. This includes implementing security controls across various technologies, maintaining existing security systems, monitoring alerts, and responding to operational tasks and strategic project initiatives. The role also involves recognizing and communicating threats and risks, making strategic recommendations for security posture enhancement, and improving the efficiency of toolsets. Documentation and process improvement are also key aspects of this position.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in cyber security or an information technology related field.
2 years experience working in Cyber Security field.

Security Certifications (CISSP, CISA, CISM, Security+, CEH, etc.) are highly desired

Responsibilities

Build, configure, and maintain network security systems.
Implement security controls using industry best practices across numerous technologies including network and datacenter segmentation, firewall, SIEM, email filtering, web and content filtering, firewall, IPS/IDS systems, identity and access management, SSO/MFA, vulnerability management, and data protection.
Maintain existing security system hardware and software including implementing new features, performing upgrades, and managing technical configurations/policies across a variety of business-critical systems.
Monitor and respond to security system health alerts.
Respond to day-to-day operational work such as managing security tools while simultaneously multitasking with strategic project initiatives.
Assist with strategic project initiatives ensuring the processes and procedures are well defined and documented.
Recognize both internal and external threats and understand/communicate risks to Sanford Assets.
Make strategic recommendations to enhance and improve overall security posture.
Recommend methods to increase efficiency of current toolsets (such as script automation or process improvement recommendations).
Write documentation that can be used by all team members and other employees.
Identify gaps in established and documented processes, updating as needed.
