About The Position

The Network Security Specialist supports the design, operation, and security of the organization's IT infrastructure, with a focus on network systems and foundational cybersecurity practices. This role emphasizes strong networking skills while building capacity in cybersecurity through monitoring, risk identification, and implementation of security best practices. The specialist works collaboratively with IT staff to maintain reliable, secure systems and continuously improve the organization's security posture.

Requirements

  • Associate's or higher degree in Information Technology, Networking, Cybersecurity, or related field
  • 2 or more years of experience in a technology-related role with a focus on networking and exposure to security concepts
  • Willingness to develop cybersecurity expertise and obtain certification
  • Must hold a valid driver's license in the individual's state of residence

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, IT, or related discipline
  • Experience in: K-12 education environment
  • Experience in: Microsoft 365 / Active Directory
  • Experience in: Endpoint Management (Huntress, SentinelOne, Microsoft Defender, etc.)
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+/Security+, or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

Responsibilities

  • Support the administration and monitoring of LAN & WAN networks, including assisting with configuration, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with IT staff to maintain network performance, reliability, and availability.
  • Assist with firewall and network security configurations under established standards and guidance.
  • Support the administration and monitoring of security tools, including firewalls, endpoint protection, content filtering, and access controls.
  • Manage and respond to security alerts, incidents, and threats in coordination with IT staff.
  • Conduct vulnerability scanning and coordinate remediation efforts across systems and devices.
  • Support implementation of cybersecurity controls aligned to frameworks such as CIS Controls or the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
  • Assist in securing systems including Active Directory, Microsoft 365, servers, and endpoint devices.
  • Support patch management and secure configuration practices across infrastructure.
  • Help maintain data protection measures, including backup validation and basic data loss prevention practices.
  • Participate in risk assessments, security reviews, and audits to identify and reduce vulnerabilities.
  • Support compliance with applicable data privacy laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Assist in maintaining cybersecurity documentation, procedures, and response plans.
  • Collaborate with IT staff to improve overall security posture and incident response readiness.
  • Assist in delivering cybersecurity awareness and training to staff.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development in networking and cybersecurity practices.
  • Travel within the tri-county region and across the state as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • The initial salary for this position is firmly set at $69,840
  • 260 Day Work Year
  • 15 PAID holidays
  • 20 Vacation Days, 5 Personal Days, 13 Sick Days, 2 Mental Health Days per fiscal year.
