About The Position

This opportunity resides with All-Domain Operations (ADO), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. All-Domain Operations comprises multi-domain operations, platforms and logistics, and intelligence operations. The Network Security Engineer provides cybersecurity and network defense support to U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM) by designing, implementing, and maintaining secure network architectures across mission‑critical environments. This role executes network security maintenance activities, configures physical and virtual firewalls, and ensures secure network operations in accordance with DoD and SOCOM security policies. The engineer supports the customer’s Security Officer, develops compliant security configurations, and enhances the resilience, performance, and protection of networked systems supporting SOCOM missions. This requisition supports hiring at multiple experience levels. Final placement will be determined based on the selected applicant’s qualifications, experience, and skill sets. Requirements

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Experience providing network security engineering or cybersecurity support to SOCOM, DoD agencies, or other government defense programs.
  • Knowledge of DoD network security policies, firewall administration, and secure network architecture best practices.
  • Experience configuring and maintaining firewalls, network switches, wireless infrastructure, and virtual/cloud security appliances.
  • Ability to translate security requirements into compliant network configurations aligned with DoD cybersecurity standards.
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis of security incidents and implementing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of network performance monitoring, troubleshooting techniques, and optimization practices.
  • Ability to develop and maintain network diagrams, configuration baselines, and technical documentation in accordance with DoD guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of secure network protocols, segmentation, access control, and defensive cybersecurity measures.
  • Ability to collaborate with Security Officers, engineers, system administrators, and government stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare documentation and brief technical concepts.
  • Must possess and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience supporting special operations networks, tactical communications, or DoD enterprise network environments.
  • Familiarity with DISA STIGs, DoD RMF requirements, and associated compliance standards.
  • Experience performing network security audits, vulnerability assessments, and remediation planning.
  • Knowledge of SIEM platforms, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and enterprise cyber defense tools.
  • Professional certifications such as Security+, Network+, CCNA/CCNP, GSEC, or other DoD 8570‑compliant certifications.
  • Experience with project planning, structured implementation methodologies, or large‑scale network upgrades.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and execute network security maintenance regimens to support secure and resilient operations.
  • Configure and maintain physical and virtual firewalls, including cloud‑based security appliances, in accordance with DoD and SOCOM requirements.
  • Work closely with the customer’s Security Officer to support and enhance the organization's security program.
  • Implement the technical aspects of the customer’s cybersecurity program, ensuring compliance with applicable DoD policies.
  • Facilitate internal and external security audits, assessments, and inspections.
  • Translate cybersecurity and operational requirements into compliant and secure network configurations.
  • Provide full lifecycle support for firewalls, switches, wireless networks, and associated network security components.
  • Monitor network performance and implement improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, and security.
  • Perform root cause analysis of security incidents and network‑related events; develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop, document, and maintain complex network configurations and architecture documentation.
  • Analyze existing network schemas and configurations to identify vulnerabilities and recommend security enhancements.
  • Apply structured engineering methodologies to plan, coordinate, and implement network security projects.
