About The Position

The Network Security Engineer will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the County's security stance. Working under the Network Operations Manager and as part of the Network Team, this position will help architect network security solutions County-wide. This position will help ensure the County has a front line of defense against unauthorized access by implementing solutions and policies and then maintaining those successfully.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Information Systems or Computer Science or relevant field from an accredited college or university required with a minimum of 4 years of experience, or Associates Degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint Experience).
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Domain Infrastructure.
  • Possession of a NC valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Expert level knowledge of routing and switching.
  • Familiarity with wireless networking, virtual environments, server hardware, datacenter technology and Microsoft domain infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Manages day-to-day client-side security via anti-malware and local software firewall policy.
  • Provides support to the Systems, Applications and Datacenter teams as necessary.
  • Implements, maintains and optimizes the internal network for the County.
  • Develops site-to-site VPN connections for internal remote communications and communications with trusted outside agencies.
  • Regularly reviews logs for signs of intrusion of malfunctions.
  • Writes and modifies firewall rules ensuring the County is protected with changing technology.
  • Monitors daily vulnerability reports and takes action for implementing needed changes and solutions.
  • Stays abreast of newly discovered attach vectors and vulnerabilities on a daily basis and work with the rest of the IT team to ensure patches are applied and vulnerabilities are addressed appropriately.
