About The Position

The Network Security Engineer will be responsible for remediating IT infrastructure security needs and resolving network vulnerabilities. This role involves monitoring computer networks for security issues, installing security measures, and operating software to protect systems and information infrastructure, including firewalls and data encryption programs. The engineer will also install, configure, and support routers and switches in the enterprise environment, manage enterprise and departmental firewalls, and research new technologies to prevent data loss and service interruptions. The position requires planning and implementing security measures, fixing detected vulnerabilities, developing IT security infrastructure best practices, and collaborating with the Info Sec Team to perform tests and uncover network vulnerabilities. Additionally, the role involves installing security software, educating colleagues about infrastructure security, performing risk assessments, and staying current on IT trends and security standards.

Requirements

  • Requires Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • At least five years of work experience in routing/switching and security.
  • Requires experience managing Cisco ASA and Palo Alto enterprise firewalls.
  • Requires experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting routers and switches.
  • Requires experience with firewall operations and review of existing firewall rules for compliance, efficiency and accuracy.
  • Requires experience with security standards for IT infrastructure.
  • Equivalencies: An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • If degree is unrelated to IT, then specialty IT experience is required.
  • Advanced technical credentials may be substituted for six months of experience or education.
  • Multiple certifications may receive additional credit towards education/experience.
  • Requires a thorough understanding of routing and switching technologies such as EIGRP, BGP, VLANS, Trunking, etc.
  • Requires a thorough understanding of firewalls, proxies, SIEM, and IDPS.
  • Requires a thorough understanding if Cisco ASA and Palo Alto firewalls.
  • Requires thorough understanding of internet technologies and network protocols.
  • Requires ability to identify and mitigate network vulnerabilities and explain how to avoid them.
  • Requires excellent customer service, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Requires excellent logic and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to adhere to deadlines and work independently to meet goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Highly prefer 5-7 years of work experience.
  • Cisco CCNP and/or Palo Alto NGFE preferred.
  • Previous experience in government is preferred.
