About The Position

Leidos is hiring a Senior Network Routing Design Engineer for its SMIT-MCEN program in Quantico, Virginia. The engineer will assist the Government Lead with daily network engineering activities, including designing, configuring, administering, troubleshooting, and optimizing enterprise LAN, BAN, and WAN environments. SMIT is the Navy’s largest IT services program; under the Service Management, Integration, and Transport portion of NGEN-R, Leidos delivers the core backbone of the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet, including cybersecurity services, network operations, service desk, and data transport. The program supports the Navy’s effort to unify shore-based networks and data management, improve capability and service, and reduce costs through an enterprise network. The role provides senior-level expertise in enterprise routing and network design, security, performance, and operations. It includes implementing multivendor solutions, supporting cybersecurity and interoperability requirements, planning network changes and migrations, and advising Government stakeholders and engineering teams. The position requires a bachelor’s degree or qualifying substituted experience, at least 10 years of relevant experience, U.S. citizenship, an active DoD Secret clearance, and specified security, ITIL, and networking credentials or qualifying experience in lieu of certain credentials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business, or a related field; additional experience may be substituted for the degree.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in enterprise network engineering, routing, design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level III certification in accordance with applicable DoD requirements.
  • ITIL Version 3 Foundation certification.
  • Professional-level certification in one or more networking technologies, such as CCNP, JNCIP, or equivalent; demonstrated relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a professional-level vendor certification, subject to contract requirements.
  • Extensive experience designing, configuring, and troubleshooting BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, and VRF.
  • Experience with MPLS, ACLs, IPsec, and Layer 2 VPN network security technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, Brocade, or comparable enterprise networking equipment.
  • Strong understanding of DNS, DHCP, IP address management, HTTP/HTTPS, proxy services, and URL filtering.
  • Experience with performance analysis, capacity planning, traffic management, and optimization of large-scale enterprise networks.
  • Ability to develop technical documentation, evaluate network design alternatives, and communicate engineering recommendations to technical teams and Government stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • CCNP Routing and Switching, CCNP Enterprise, or CCNP Service Provider certification.
  • Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP) certification.
  • Experience supporting MCEN, NMCI, or comparable Department of Defense enterprise networks.
  • Experience with Navy/Marine Corps, DISA, and Joint network interoperability requirements.
  • Experience designing and integrating multivendor enterprise routing and switching environments.
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity policies, STIGs, and network security compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting network modernization, enterprise migrations, and large-scale infrastructure integration projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, implement, and integrate enterprise routing solutions using BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, and VRF.
  • Design and implement network security solutions using MPLS, ACLs, IPsec, Layer 2 VPNs, and other approved technologies.
  • Evaluate network architecture, communications hardware, and software to develop scalable, secure, resilient solutions for operational and mission requirements.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute network conversions, cutovers, upgrades, and migrations while minimizing service disruptions and maintaining operational continuity.
  • Perform Capacity and Demand Management activities under USMC Circuit Management processes, including network utilization assessments, traffic analysis, and traffic-shaping design.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage IP addressing schemes, network address allocations, and related documentation.
  • Design, configure, and optimize DNS, DHCP, and directory-services replication.
  • Design and integrate secure web access solutions supporting HTTP and HTTPS, including caching, proxy services, URL filtering, and content inspection.
  • Develop and implement proxy filtering solutions with category-based filtering, policy scheduling, and automated updates from Government-approved providers.
  • Design and integrate anti-malware, HTTP/HTTPS inspection, and other network security capabilities.
  • Support development and integration of IAM requirements, including PKI, certificate-based authentication, and two-factor authentication.
  • Design and integrate network solutions supporting application ports and protocols, IA requirements, routing, and LAN connectivity.
  • Oversee Rights Management Services for administrators, users, and groups to ensure appropriate access controls and compliance with Government security policies.
  • Design, configure, and integrate multivendor network solutions using Cisco, Juniper, Brocade, and other enterprise networking technologies.
  • Assess network performance, review configurations, troubleshoot, and test complex large-scale enterprise networks to identify and resolve operational issues.
  • Ensure network designs and implementations support Navy, Marine Corps, DISA, and Joint interoperability requirements.
  • Monitor and implement applicable security updates, configuration changes, and network hardening in accordance with Government policies and cybersecurity standards.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, implementation plans, configuration baselines, and engineering recommendations.
  • Provide senior-level technical expertise and recommendations to Government stakeholders and engineering teams on network architecture, performance optimization, security, and operational improvements.
