About The Position

The Network Literacy Coach is responsible for improving literacy outcomes for students in PreK–8th grade by providing instructional coaching, professional development, data analysis, and curriculum support across schools within the network. He or she will report directly to the Chief Academic Officer. The Literacy Coach works closely with school leaders, teachers, interventionists, and academic teams to strengthen Tier I instruction, intervention systems, foundational literacy practices, and student achievement in reading and writing.

Requirements

  • Deep knowledge of content and pedagogy in the areas of early literacy, the Science of Reading, and Louisiana State Standards
  • Knowledgeable of adult learning and skillful in working with learners of all levels
  • At least five years successful classroom and/or administrative experience
  • Master’s degree or higher with an emphasis in areas of education or related fields
  • Louisiana teaching/leadership certification, degree related certifications, or eligible for obtainment
  • Contributes to the work as a team player and takes initiative when opportunities are presented
  • A lifelong learner

Responsibilities

  • Model effective literacy instruction aligned to Louisiana Student Standards and the Science of Reading
  • Guide instructional staff members to collect and analyze appropriate data and to develop action plans in response to the data.
  • Develop curriculum supports, including unit planning guides and constructs, for instructional staff to effectively teach content standards.
  • Design, coordinate, and provide professional development focused on understanding standards, improving alignment, delivery of the state-approved curriculum, with a heavy focus on foundational literacy skills.
  • Analyze student and teacher data to diagnose instructional needs; identify research-based strategies to meet these needs.
  • Keep current on ongoing developments and requirements from the Louisiana Department of Education relative to school accountability, assessment, and curriculum.
  • Collaborate with all site-based instructional leadership including Building Directors and Instructional Coaches to create and implement plans school-wide with a focus on goals for student achievement.
  • Provide coaching and support to school based instructional staff on standards aligned lesson planning and delivery, data collection, and initiatives to improve student achievement.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled site-based focused learning walks and provide support throughout the observation-feedback cycle.
  • Support the implementation of foundational literacy instruction in all grades and assist instructional staff in integrating reading, writing, speaking, and listening across content areas.
  • Work with school leaders to support interventionists to ensure alignment of intervention goals and resources to the overall school and network goals.
  • Assist in updating key CANO network materials.
  • Provide weekly updates on progress to the CANO Chief Academic Officer
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
