Network & Infrastructure Lead Engineer

Savoye North AmericaAurora, CO
Hybrid

About The Position

SAVOYE NORTH AMERICA designs and integrates supply chain solutions. We provide innovative solutions through a full range of Advanced Software and Technology Solutions. We are searching for Network & Infrastructure Lead Engineer to join our team of innovative and passionate individuals. Savoye NA delivers warehouse automation solutions powered by our AiRVOS Warehouse Execution System (WES). Our WES runs on premises at customer distribution centers. Depending on the engagement, it is deployed either on networks and servers that Savoye designs, deploys, and owns, or on customer-owned infrastructure — including production clusters spanning multiple nodes and customer-supplied QA environments used for testing. The Network & Infrastructure Lead Engineer will be Savoye's in-house network engineering authority for customer site deployments. They will design the network architecture, represent it directly to customer IT organizations, own our relationship with third-party network vendors and managed service providers, and lead the physical infrastructure work. Their first priorities will be two large-scale, high-throughput distribution center deployments currently in flight, with additional multi-site programs to follow. This is a network-first role, but it is not a network-only role. They will also own the Linux and virtualization layer that our WES runs on at customer sites (Linux virtual machines on VMware ESXi). They will work alongside our software engineering team to take on more of the platform and DevOps work including Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and database operations. This hire is meant to be the person who owns the full infrastructure stack beneath the WES application, starting with the network and servers and growing outward.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, related field from an accredited university
  • 7 years of Experience in network engineering or network administration, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior ownership capacity.
  • Expert-level knowledge of routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, SD-WAN, and network segmentation
  • Expert-level hands-on experience with Cisco and/or Aruba switch administration; hands-on experience with enterprise firewall platforms (Fortinet preferred, or Palo Alto, Cisco, or similar)
  • Experience designing network architecture for high-availability, low-latency environments
  • Experience troubleshooting at the packet level: packet captures, latency analysis, root cause on intermittent connectivity
  • Experience with Linux administration, installation, patching, storage, networking configuration, user/access management, and troubleshooting in production environments
  • Experience administering VMware ESXi / vSphere: host configuration, VM provisioning, storage and networking configuration, snapshots and backups, and basic capacity planning
  • Experience with physical infrastructure: racking, cabling, structured wiring, power, and hardware commissioning
  • Ability to engage credibly with customer network and security teams: explain design decisions, respond to technical scrutiny, and collaborate on shared standards
  • Demonstrated aptitude and desire for growing into platform and DevOps work (containers, CI/CD, database operations)
  • High attention to detail and a proactive mindset toward reliability and security
  • Clear written and verbal communication and strong documentation discipline
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites for deployments, go-lives, and critical support (estimated 10-25%, higher during go-live periods)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the Material Handling Industry is a plus.
  • CCNA / CCNP, Fortinet NSE, or equivalent certification
  • Experience with wireless site surveys and RF planning in warehouse, manufacturing, or other industrial environments
  • Experience supporting networks for automation (PLCs, conveyors, robotics, or similar)
  • Experience managing or overseeing managed service providers, including defining SLAs and roles/responsibilities
  • Experience working in a customer-facing or professional services capacity
  • Exposure to Docker Swarm or Kubernetes, even in a lab or homelab setting
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or similar)
  • Exposure to database operations, including NoSQL databases (MongoDB or similar)
  • Infrastructure as code (Ansible, Terraform) and monitoring tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)
  • Scripting in Bash, PowerShell, or Python
  • Experience with air-gapped or restricted-network deployments

Responsibilities

  • Own the network architecture for WES deployments at customer sites: segmentation, VLANs, routing, switching, firewalling, VPN, wireless coverage, and redundancy appropriate for large-scale, high-throughput distribution center operations
  • Design network architectures for high-availability, low-latency environments where automation equipment, servers, and control systems must communicate reliably 24/7
  • Evaluate and select network equipment platforms suited to enterprise and industrial scale (Fortinet, Cisco, Aruba, Meraki, or similar), and own the equipment lifecycle including spares, redundancy, and firmware management
  • Define and maintain Savoye's reference network architecture and deployment standards so every site is built to a consistent, supportable design
  • Capture lessons learned from each site deployment and feed them back into the standard offering, continuously evaluating emerging technologies and industry best practices to improve reliability, performance, and supportability across the install base
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, designs, procedures, and changes for every site
  • Serve as Savoye's network engineering point of contact with customer IT infrastructure teams: present and defend network designs during early project planning, incorporate customer standards and input, and provide customers appropriate visibility into the Savoye-managed network within their facility
  • Own the relationship with third-party network vendors and managed service providers: define roles and responsibilities, set expectations and SLAs, hold them accountable, and ensure Savoye retains the in-house ability to diagnose and resolve network issues independently
  • Participate in early project planning alongside Sales, Project Management, and customer IT so network requirements, ownership boundaries, and dependencies are clear before equipment is ordered
  • Lead network installation, configuration, commissioning, and cutover at customer sites, including go-live and hyper care support
  • Respond to network emergencies and incidents at customer sites to minimize downtime, and lead root cause analysis on connectivity, latency, or intermittent failures
  • Plan and support physical server infrastructure at customer sites: sizing, procurement input, rack layout, cabling, power, and out-of-band management
  • Support backup and disaster recovery design for site infrastructure to ensure business continuity for customer operations
  • Proactively monitor and maintain network reliability and security across deployed sites
  • Own the design, build, and ongoing management of the server and virtualization layer for WES deployments at customer sites: VMware ESXi hosts, vSphere, and the Linux virtual machines that run the WES application stack
  • Size, configure, and harden Linux VMs for production automation workloads, including OS patching, storage, user and access management, and performance tuning
  • Design the server environment for high availability and recoverability: host redundancy, VM placement, backup, snapshot, and disaster recovery processes
  • Stand up and maintain internal Linux and virtualization environments for development, testing, and QA at Savoye, and support customer-hosted environments used for testing
  • Monitor server health and capacity across deployed sites and lead troubleshooting of OS, storage, and virtualization-layer issues
  • Work with the software engineering team to take on the container platform that runs on top of the Linux/VM layer: Docker Swarm and Kubernetes cluster deployment, upgrades, and operations, with the goal of owning this area over time
  • Learn and support Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for deploying WES software to customer and internal environments
  • Support database operations for the WES, including NoSQL databases (MongoDB or similar), with a focus on high availability, backup, and recovery
  • Collaborate with cross-functional IT and engineering teams on infrastructure initiatives and upgrades
  • Serve as the technical lead and point of ownership for network and infrastructure across concurrent customer projects
  • Mentor and provide technical direction to other engineers as the infrastructure function grows
  • Complete weekly time entry and expense reports
