About The Position

The Massachusetts Port Authority is seeking a Network Infrastructure Intern to assist in maintaining and operating the organization’s enterprise network and storage environments. This role provides hands-on exposure to high-availability, secure IT infrastructure in a large, mission-critical environment while supporting both daily operations and project-based initiatives. The Information Technology (IT) Department serves as the digital heartbeat of the organization, fueling the seamless operation of Massport. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field.
  • Interest in enterprise infrastructure, virtualization, and security best practices.
  • Eagerness to learn in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Ability to work a 37.5-hour work week.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.
  • Ability to pass Massport’s pre-employment-controlled substance test and background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with monitoring network and system performance, availability, and security alerts.
  • Support documentation of network configurations, system changes, and infrastructure diagrams using tools such as NetBox.
  • Assist with network refresh and upgrade projects, including equipment staging, racking, cabling, and labeling under supervision.
  • Support basic troubleshooting of network, storage, and connectivity issues and escalate as appropriate.
  • Assist with routine maintenance tasks such as hardware checks, patching support, and validation testing.
  • Participate in site surveys, Wi-Fi testing, and physical infrastructure assessments across Massport facilities.
  • Help maintain accurate inventories of network, storage, and systems assets.
  • Support compliance and security activities, including log reviews and access verification tasks.
  • Collaborate with IT infrastructure, security, and operations teams on cross-functional initiatives.
