About The Position

Google is proud to boast a network that provides service to millions of Internet users around the world. The Network Engineering team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. Google's complex network generates a constant stream of challenges which require you to continually be innovative with an evolving set of technologies. Keeping the network reliable ensures that our users stay connected with our suite of applications, products and services. Google's network provides services to millions of Internet users around the world. Our metros are on the edge of our network where Google connects to its users. The Network Team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. Our team owns the full life cycle of all space, power, and network assets in all of Google’s data centers and metro points of presence globally. From the foundation, we are involved from site acquisition to construction and are accountable for what space and power is delivered. We're involved in every facet of network delivery from architecture and design to installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
6 years of experience in telecommunications at carrier scale working with optical network infrastructure, transmission systems, layer2/3 routers, and data services.
Experience planning/leading network deployments and creating deployment packages and Methods of Procedures (MOP).
Experience planning and coordinating with field operation technicians, engineers, contractors, or vendors in a telecommunications working environment.

Nice To Haves

Experience with network infrastructure, rack and stack, device commissioning, and quality acceptance control.
Experience in collaboration across multiple levels and functions, and passionate to engage and influence tactical and strategic decision-making.
Scripting and software development skills (e.g., Python or Go).
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time may be needed during project peak time.

Responsibilities

Support and participate with Design, Deployment, and Planning teams as needed to deliver end-to-end connectivity for assigned metro sites.
Execute and troubleshoot capacity workflows for edge network devices in new and existing network nodes across Google's global network.
Work with Core, Transport, and Edge teams to translate common network solutions into standard Bill Of Materials (BOMs) and detailed design packages for third parties to execute with minimal oversight.
Manage the creation and maintenance of network documentation and implementation plans (DPKs), ensuring technical accuracy during deployment activities.
Apply scripting and software development skills (e.g., Python) to automate workflows, perform data analysis, and drive process optimizations within your assigned scope.
