Network Fiber Technician - Outside Plant - Lubbock, TX
About The Position
Metronet is seeking a Network Fiber Technician in Lubbock, TX, to join one of the nation's fastest-growing fiber-optic companies. As a Network Fiber Technician, you will be responsible for the terminating, splicing, bonding/grounding, documenting, and testing of all fiber optic cables within the systems fiber optic networks and their related equipment to ensure maximum operating efficiency. This role involves installing and maintaining customer premise equipment (CPE), local area networks (LAN), WiFi networks, network interface devices (NID), and Optical Network Terminals (ONT). You will perform skilled troubleshooting, respond to trouble tickets, install Outside Plant (OSP) facilities, and conduct routine preventive maintenance and major repairs. The position also requires cable/fiber testing, splicing, locating fiber optic cabling, and immediate reporting of all record changes. Additional duties include completing inventory replenish requests, traveling for training, and other assigned tasks.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- One to two years in the telecommunications industry or related experience
- Ability to be professional with customers and fellow associates
- Meet key performance metrics
- Physical ability to work in various conditions including, but not limited to adverse weather conditions
- Physical ability to work from a kneeling or standing position for long periods of time
- Physical ability to climb ladders with proper equipment up to 25 feet
- Able to lift and carry loads of up to 75lbs including ladder
- Ability to work with basic hand tools and other specialized equipment with training
- Operate and maintain company vehicle/equipment safely and professionally including a Department of Transportation (DOT) certified bucket truck and trailer
- Perform on-call rotation duties after regular business hours as needed
- Available to work overtime when deemed necessary, may include holidays and weekends
- Willingness to work as a team and independently

Responsibilities
- Perform all setup, testing and maintenance required for Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) installation of Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), DSL and Networking services
- Install and maintain CPE Local Area Networks (LAN) and WiFi networks
- Install and maintain network interface devices (NID) and Optical Network Terminals (ONT)
- Perform skilled troubleshooting from the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) to the demarcation point including CPE
- Respond to trouble tickets within acceptable company timeframe standards
- Install Outside Plant (OSP) facilities according to engineered work orders or service orders
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and major repairs to distribution systems
- Perform cable/fiber testing and splicing
- Locate fiber optic cabling
- Record and report all record changes immediately
- Complete inventory replenish requests as needed
- Ability to work other duties as assigned
- Subject to all applicable state and federal laws
- Available to travel for training as needed
- Ability to work other duties as assigned
