About The Position

Xylem is seeking Network Engineering & Troubleshooting Intern candidates to join our Global Network Services team. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience supporting enterprise network operations, participating in real incident response, and working alongside engineers who manage critical connectivity across Xylem’s global footprint. Xylem Summer Internships typically last 10–12 weeks and provide hands-on, professional experience while making a lasting contribution to the organization. Our internship program is designed to build a pipeline of talented undergraduate students interested in careers within the water innovation technology industry. Interns are our primary talent pool for early-career full-time positions and rotational programs. The hourly rate for an intern depends on several factors including major, year in school, and geographic location. The average hourly rate ranges from $21.00–$27.00/hour. Xylem does not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Networking, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or related field
  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, OSI model, subnets, routing protocols, VLANs)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Clear communication skills and ability to document technical tasks effectively
  • Interest in Cisco networking technologies (switching, routing, wireless, firewalls)

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Wi-Fi troubleshooting or packet analysis tools
  • Introductory coursework or progress toward an entry-level certification such as CCNA

Responsibilities

  • Assist with troubleshooting across switching, routing, wireless, and circuit-related network incidents
  • Support configuration tasks such as VLAN updates, port provisioning, DHCP/DNS validation, and access point deployments
  • Participate in site-level network upgrades, hardware refreshes, and modernization initiatives
  • Review logs, packet captures, alerts, and monitoring data to support root-cause analysis
  • Create and update network engineering documentation, topology diagrams, and runbooks
  • Work alongside senior engineers during incident bridges and change windows to observe enterprise-scale operations
  • Validate device inventory, interface status, and configuration accuracy across diverse network environments
