Peaton is seeking a Network Engineering Manager to be part of a cutting-edge, mission-focused team supporting Deep Space exploration. You will be supporting NASA/JPL’s Deep Space Network (DSN) and work with a team of US and international end users, engineers, operators, and system administrators to develop and implement mission interface and solutions and oversee mission-critical support. Reporting to the Deep Space Network (DSN) Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Program Manager, the Network Engineering Manager is responsible for the contributions of a specific group of employees to the overall success of DSN. Specific responsibilities are to plan, prioritize, organize, staff, direct, support, control and report on assigned tasks and projects; set individual work standards and objectives, evaluate performance and communicate results; administer salary EEO and employee recognition programs; initiate required employee training; meet/communicate all environmental, health & safety requirements and training; facilitate two-way communications; and develop personnel for advancement to positions of greater responsibility. Network Engineering activities generally encompass monitoring network and subsystem performance, providing technical assistance in the resolution of failures, manage and review testing and acceptance of S/W and H/W, managing system sparing, support and oversight of schedules for DSN compatibility testing and verification with spacecraft, providing test report and performance briefings, participating in design/development reviews, performing limited design and development of antenna support systems and tools. Gives technical direction, usually in an engineering specialty, where success is highly dependent upon the engineering group capability and performance. Directly oversees engineering activity, necessitating application of supervisory skills over technical and administrative personnel. Provides direction to senior engineering personnel as assigned. Determines and directs the activity of the groups and is responsible for the documentation and the technical progress reports of system deliverables. Establishes systems planning breakdowns, schedules and budgets. Assists in proposals, bids, contract evaluations and study programs within area of specialty, and maintains customer liaison when required. Determines workload and manpower requirements, coordinating transfers from other sections and/or requisitions for new personnel when necessary. Coordinates with DSN stations, customer engineering groups, Business Management and other departments as required.
