Network Engineer

WavepointBuffalo, NY
Hybrid

About The Position

Wavepoint 3PL is a growing third-party logistics provider building out warehousing, distribution, and supply-chain technology across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast. Western New York is a strategic part of that growth — we're investing in the Buffalo market, expanding our local footprint, and building the team that will support it for the long term. This role is one of the cornerstone hires for that investment. You won't be a small piece of a giant network team at a slow-moving enterprise. You'll be a key engineer with real ownership, real visibility, and a direct line of sight to the work you're doing. As Wavepoint grows, the network grows with it — and so does the person responsible for it. If you've been looking for a chance to do meaningful, hands-on network engineering work without leaving the Buffalo / WNY area — and you'd rather help build something than maintain something — this is the role to look at. You'll own the design, deployment, monitoring, and day-to-day operation of the network infrastructure that keeps our warehouses, offices, and customer-facing systems running. That includes: Designing, deploying, and supporting LAN, WAN, wireless, and SD-WAN infrastructure across multiple sites Standing up network infrastructure at new facilities as the company expands in Western New York and beyond Monitoring network performance, identifying bottlenecks, and tuning for the demands of warehouse operations (high-density Wi-Fi, RF scanners, WMS traffic, voice picking, security cameras, EDI) Maintaining firewalls, VPNs, segmentation, and other perimeter and internal security controls in partnership with the broader IT and security team Managing site-to-site connectivity, carrier circuits, and ISP relationships — including troubleshooting circuit issues with carriers and pushing for resolution Owning configuration management, change control, and documentation for the network estate Responding to incidents, leading root-cause analysis, and improving runbooks and monitoring so the same issue doesn't happen twice Partnering with warehouse operations, applications, and customer onboarding teams when network design decisions affect the floor Supporting and mentoring junior IT staff as the team grows around this hire

Requirements

  • 4+ years of hands-on network engineering experience in a multi-site environment
  • Strong working knowledge of switching, routing, VLANs, VPNs, BGP/OSPF, and DNS/DHCP
  • Experience deploying and supporting firewalls and segmentation in a production environment
  • Comfortable owning network monitoring and observability — picking tools, building dashboards, setting up alerts that actually mean something
  • Solid documentation habits; you write things down so the next engineer (including future you) isn't guessing
  • Ability to be on-site in Buffalo on a hybrid schedule (typically 2–3 days per week in the office or at a local facility)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SD-WAN at scale across multiple sites
  • Warehouse, distribution, manufacturing, or other multi-site operational environments where uptime directly affects revenue
  • Cloud networking experience (AWS, Azure, or both) — VPC/VNet design, site-to-site VPN, Direct Connect /ExpressRoute
  • Wireless engineering for high-density industrial environments (RF planning, survey tools, controllers)
  • One or more current certifications: CCNA, CCNP, Network+, AWS Advanced Networking, Azure Network Engineer Associate, JNCIS/JNCIP, Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto PCNSE
  • Scripting/automation skills — Python, Ansible, or similar — to take routine work off your plate
  • Background supporting WMS or ERP-adjacent networks (warehouse management, EDI, etc)
  • Exposure to security frameworks relevant to logistics customers (SOC 2, CTPAT, NIST CSF)

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and support LAN, WAN, wireless, and SD-WAN infrastructure across multiple sites
  • Stand up network infrastructure at new facilities as the company expands in Western New York and beyond
  • Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and tune for the demands of warehouse operations (high-density Wi-Fi, RF scanners, WMS traffic, voice picking, security cameras, EDI)
  • Maintain firewalls, VPNs, segmentation, and other perimeter and internal security controls in partnership with the broader IT and security team
  • Manage site-to-site connectivity, carrier circuits, and ISP relationships — including troubleshooting circuit issues with carriers and pushing for resolution
  • Own configuration management, change control, and documentation for the network estate
  • Respond to incidents, lead root-cause analysis, and improve runbooks and monitoring so the same issue doesn't happen twice
  • Partner with warehouse operations, applications, and customer onboarding teams when network design decisions affect the floor
  • Support and mentor junior IT staff as the team grows around this hire

Benefits

  • Health, dental, and company-paid group term life insurance for full-time employees
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with eligibility per the plan documents
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and paid holidays , plus paid bereavement and other leave per Wavepoint policy and applicable law
