About The Position

VDOT is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer (Sr NE) to implement and provide support to the agency's IT Network infrastructure. The Sr NE performs day-to-day activities related to the support, documentation, research, analysis, and implementation of VDOT Network related infrastructure. Candidate must have in-depth, considerable knowledge and hands-on experience understanding, documenting, and maintaining Network related infrastructure.

Requirements

Considerable knowledge and hands-on working experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, and wireless access points.
Considerable hands-on working experience setting up, configuring, upgrading, managing and troubleshooting routers/switches, and WAPS.
Demonstrated and hands-on ability to design, install and troubleshoot local-area and wide-area enterprise networks.
Considerable direct hands-on experience engineering and design experience in networking industry required.
Industry standard networking certification (example: Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA- Junos, etc.)
In-depth experience designing installing and troubleshooting local-area and wide-area enterprise networks.
Experience monitoring IT environments for compliance with information security, architecture policies, and standards.
Experience creating repeatable, reliable, scalable network architectures with fault tolerance.
Experience performance tuning, monitoring systems, statistics/metrics collection, and disaster recovery.
Experience creating network diagrams using industry standard tools such as Visio, etc.
Experience with networking features and protocols such as: ARP, CDP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, VTP, Etherchannel, HSRP, QoS, multicast, IPsec, etc
8+ Years of considerable knowledge and hands-on working experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, wireless access points, and load balancers (including the ability to setup, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot)
8+ Years of demonstrated and hands-on ability to design, install and troubleshoot local-area and wide-area enterprise networks.
8+ Years of considerable direct hands-on experience engineering and design experience in networking industry required.
8+ Years of in-depth experience designing installing and troubleshooting local-area and wide-area enterprise networks.
8+ Years of experience creating network diagrams using industry standard tools such as Visio, etc.
8+ Years of experience with networking features and protocols such as: ARP, CDP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, VTP, Etherchannel, 802.1Q trunking, HSRP, QoS, multicast, IPsec, RADIUS/TACACS+, SNMP, BRI/PRI, MPLS

Responsibilities

Performs day-to-day activities related to the support and documentation of VDOT Network infrastructure.
Performs day-to-day activities related to the support, documentation, research, analysis, and implementation of VDOT Network related infrastructure.
Understands, documents, and maintains Network related infrastructure.
Documents, sets up, configures, upgrades, manages, and troubleshoots enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, wireless access points, and load balancers.
Troubleshoots Network related infrastructure.
Identifies and diagnoses system problems by using line monitors, diagnostic software, test equipment.
Works closely with agency's IT infrastructure suppliers and stakeholders to gather requirements, specifications, and configurations to assure they are accurate and up to date.
Assists in troubleshooting and resolving network issues impacting application performance and uptime.
Oversees the installation, documentation, and upgrades of various agency facility data network infrastructure.
Oversees and collaborates with cloud and DevSecOps teams to optimize hybrid connectivity and SDWAN configurations.
Provides documentation, network architecture topology diagrams, IP schemes, firewall rules, and access controls when required.
Works independently on assigned projects.
