About The Position

The Network Engineer Plans, designs, and evaluates new and existing computer network systems and services, including local area networks, wide area networks, intranets, and the Internet, providing analytical, technical, and administrative support. The Network Engineer provides enhancements, maintenance, and operational duties on the network. This role involves working both alone and with a team to maintain connectivity with remote locations and ensure proper operation of remote systems. The engineer will also serve as a tier 2 and 3 escalation point for network tickets, offering guidance to the help desk and junior network team members. Key responsibilities include configuring and maintaining corporate firewalls, monitoring network alerts, and ensuring enterprise-wide network security through Access-Lists, Firewalls, and IDS/IPS. The position also requires maintaining and troubleshooting enterprise wireless and wired networks, light Windows/Linux server troubleshooting, and maintaining enterprise QoS policies. The role includes participating in an on-call rotation and building/maintaining documentation, guides, and diagrams for the IT department. Requirements

  • MUST HAVE LOCAL VA ADDRESS AND CURRENTLY LIVE WITHIN DRIVING DISTANCE OF OUR MECHANICSVILLE, VA OFFICE
  • Five to Ten years of relevant experience supporting an enterprise network
  • CCNA Required
  • Strong knowledge of managing and maintaining firewalls
  • Strong knowledge of Routing Protocols, including OSPF and EIGRP
  • Strong knowledge of Implementing and deploying wireless networks
  • Sharp troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to collaborate with other IT teams to resolve issues as needed
  • Experience deploying and troubleshooting Cisco Meraki
  • Experience with Cisco ISE
  • Highly developed sense of customer service and interpersonal skills including high integrity, respect for all individuals (customers, vendors, and employees), solid communication skills, strong critical and analytical thinking skills, and appreciation of diversity (thought, ethnic, gender, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • CCNP Preferred
  • Experience with Palo Alto firewalls are a plus
  • Experience with PCI/HIPPA/FIPS or other information security standards are a plus
  • Familiarity with standard industry tools like Solarwinds and Wireshark
  • Scripting (Python, Perl, PHP, PowerShell, etc.)
  • Working Linux skillset
  • Experience with multi-cast routing

  • Serve as a tier 2 and 3 escalation point for network tickets, as well as provide guidance for the help desk and junior members of the network team
  • Monitor, maintain and react to network monitoring and alerts
  • Maintain Access-Lists, Firewalls, IDS/IPS, and other measures to ensure enterprise wide network security
  • Maintain & Troubleshoot enterprise wireless and wired network
  • Light Windows/Linux server troubleshooting & support
  • Maintain enterprise QoS policies
  • Ability to participate and work in an on-call rotation
  • Build/maintain documentation, guides, and diagrams that can be utilized by all members of the IT department
  • Ability to work varying shifts, weekends and holidays, as well as, extended workdays to support business needs
  • Other duties may be assigned
