About The Position

We are seeking a Network Engineer 3 to join our effort. This candidate will be responsible for finalizing the design and implementation of a BGP network that will serve as the backbone of our ISP.

Requirements

  • BGP Expertise: Ability to design, configure, and maintain BGP routing across multiple peers, including route reflection, policy controls, and failover scenarios.
  • Network Architecture: Design scalable, redundant ISP-grade networks across core, distribution, and edge layers.
  • Security: Knowledge of securing BGP sessions (MD5 authentication, prefix filtering, RPKI), firewall integration, and DDoS mitigation.
  • Protocols & ISP Operations: OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, VPNs, QoS, IPv4/IPv6 management, peering agreements, DNS/DHCP/IPAM.
  • Hands-On Implementation: Configure routers/switches, troubleshoot, and operationalize the design.
  • Vendor Experience: Cisco IOS-XR, Palo Alto NGFW, Infoblox, Nutanix, or comparable platforms.
  • Monitoring & Documentation: NOC dashboards, SNMP/NetFlow, detailed runbooks, and network diagrams.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively across city departments (Public Safety, Public Works, Schools, Libraries) and external providers.
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex designs to varied stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving mindset for escalations and critical incidents.
  • Designed and operated provider-grade networks, not just enterprise environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in municipal broadband or public sector networks is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Implement monitoring solutions including NOC dashboards, SNMP/NetFlow.
  • Create detailed runbooks and network diagrams.
  • Work effectively across city departments (Public Safety, Public Works, Schools, Libraries) and external providers.
  • Explain complex designs to varied stakeholders.
  • Handle escalations and critical incidents.
