About The Position

Network Engineer I (NE1) – Foundational / Entry Level. This is a 6-month contract position with the possibility of extension or conversion to permanent for the right candidate. The role is 100% onsite and requires a solid understanding of Layer 2, foundational Layer 3, and introductory Wi-Fi concepts.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of Layer 2 concepts.
  • Foundational understanding of Layer 3 concepts.
  • Introductory understanding of Wi-Fi concepts.
  • Experience with VLAN creation, tagging, and trunking.
  • Experience with port security and access control.
  • Knowledge of Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) fundamentals (PVST+, RSTP).
  • Familiarity with 802.1X basics and AAA authentication concepts.
  • Understanding of MAC address tables and ARP.
  • Proficiency in IPv4 addressing and subnetting (Class A/B/C, private vs public).
  • Experience with default gateways and static routing.
  • Basic understanding of OSPF and EIGRP concepts.
  • Understanding of SSIDs, channels, and basic RF concepts.
  • Knowledge of Wi-Fi standards overview (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax).
  • Experience with basic AP setup and controller awareness.
  • Ability to perform Wi-Fi troubleshooting basics (signal strength, interference).
  • Familiarity with switch installation, racking, and cabling standards.
  • Understanding of power and grounding considerations (PoE, UPS).
  • Proficiency in network documentation and labeling.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, etc.).
  • Basic Wireshark skills for packet inspection.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Adherence to change management procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Create, tag, and trunk VLANs.
  • Implement port security and access control.
  • Understand and apply Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) fundamentals (PVST+, RSTP).
  • Configure and manage 802.1X basics and AAA authentication concepts.
  • Manage MAC address tables and ARP.
  • Perform IPv4 addressing and subnetting (Class A/B/C, private vs public).
  • Configure default gateways and static routing.
  • Understand basic OSPF and EIGRP concepts.
  • Set up SSIDs, channels, and understand basic RF concepts.
  • Understand Wi-Fi standards overview (802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax).
  • Perform basic AP setup and controller awareness.
  • Conduct basic Wi-Fi troubleshooting (signal strength, interference).
  • Install switches, manage racking, and adhere to cabling standards.
  • Ensure proper power and grounding considerations (PoE, UPS).
  • Maintain network documentation and labeling.
  • Utilize network monitoring tools.
  • Perform packet inspection using Wireshark.
  • Communicate clearly and adhere to change management procedures.
