About The Position

The Network Engineer I is responsible for installing and maintaining communications equipment and wiring in county and home offices. This role involves maintaining the highest level of network security, troubleshooting connectivity issues for various users (county, home office, and VPN), and monitoring network performance. The position also requires developing and maintaining documentation on network practices, equipment, and Disaster Recovery procedures for remote sites. A key aspect of this role is understanding and implementing IT security policies as they relate to networking equipment and researching, planning, and implementing network upgrades.

Requirements

  • Associate (2-year) degree, or 2-4 years combined work experience in information technology field, preferably in network field.
  • Knowledge of Core Networking functions (Routing, Switching, OSI Model).
  • Must have and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
  • Must be able to solve highly complex technical problems.
  • Must know how to read, analyze and interpret procedures, instructions and technical documents.
  • Must know how to research and analyze trends in the IT industry.
  • Must be able to solve problems and understand when it is necessary to seek assistance in the performance of work.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and activities independently as well as work in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow sound business ethics when executing job responsibilities.
  • An understanding of the importance of procedures and the need to follow them is required.
  • Must have an understanding of the importance of learning is never-ending.
  • Must be a self-motivated individual, willing to constantly evaluate the environment for improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain communications equipment and wiring in county offices and the home office.
  • Maintain the highest level of network security according to the business model.
  • Troubleshoot wired and wireless connectivity issues for county, home office users, and VPN users.
  • Monitor network performance and make necessary adjustments.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation on current network practices and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate Disaster Recovery procedures for remote sites and documentation.
  • Develop working knowledge of Security policies and practices as it relates to networking equipment.
  • Research, plan, and implement upgrades to network and network infrastructure as needed.
  • Take responsibility for a component of IT security for their functional area.
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with Internet Service Provider vendors and company personnel.
  • Keep management and team members informed of technical issues that arise.
  • Be available for 24/7 on-call rotation.
