About The Position

The Network Engineer 1 is responsible for the monitoring and maintenance of Stormont Vail's LAN, WAN, and Wi-Fi infrastructure. This role involves maintaining comprehensive documentation, diagrams, and inventory of network and security devices. Key responsibilities include logging and tracking support requests, handling routine Tier I network escalations from the Help Desk, and managing internal and external IP and DNS addressing. The engineer will monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain access layer, core networking devices, and 802.11x wireless infrastructure, engaging carrier and vendor support as needed. The position also requires setting up and maintaining communication closets, racks, and power protection equipment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a customer service mindset, work effectively with various IT teams, and be available for on-call duties for network and wireless incidents. Dedication to delivering results on-time and on-budget, adherence to IT, security, and change management policies, and excellent customer relationship and project management skills are essential. The role involves developing design proposals and recommendations for system upgrades. This is a full-time, exempt position, primarily day shift, with occasional requirements to work evenings, nights, and weekends, and potential travel to remote facilities. It is not patient-facing and offers a hybrid remote work capability, requiring a quiet, distraction-free workspace with stable electricity and internet access.

Requirements

  • 2 years IT experience with desktop, server, security, or network infrastructure.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and technical procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, peers, internal customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain documentation, diagrams, and inventory of network infrastructure and security devices, components, and systems.
  • Log and track requests for assistance in a trouble tracking/ticketing system, and handle routine, tier I, network escalations from the Help Desk.
  • Manage all internal and external IP and DNS addressing.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain access layer networking devices and infrastructure.
  • Monitor and assist with core networking devices and infrastructure.
  • Engages carrier and/or vendor support as required for timely problem resolution.
  • Setup and maintain communication closets, racks, and power protection equipment.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain 802.11x wireless infrastructure and client devices.
  • Demonstrate customer service mindset and ability to work effectively as a team with Help Desk, Systems Engineers, IT Security, and Application staff.
  • On call for, network, and wireless infrastructure incidents and outages.
  • Show dedication to delivering results on-time and on-budget.
  • Understand and adhere to Stormont IT, security, and change management policies.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer relationship skills including communicating service levels, and providing status necessary reports.
  • Effective in decision-making, problem solving and influencing others.
  • Demonstrate excellent project management skills with the ability to effectively coordinate and deliver results across organizational divisions.
  • Develop design proposals, recommendations and justifications for new systems or upgrades & improvements to existing solutions.
  • Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
