About The Position

Teamshares is a major buyer of small businesses from retiring owners, aiming to make employee ownership the future of small business. They acquire companies, grant employees a 10% ownership stake, and support their growth with proprietary software, education, financial products, and leadership support. The goal is to build a network of 10,000 employee-owned businesses, creating significant stock wealth for workers and ensuring the continued flourishing of vital small businesses and their communities. This role involves serving as the President/CEO of a network company in Portland, OR, within the mechanical and electrical services industry, with a focus on increasing profitability and transitioning the business to employee ownership. The President will have full P&L responsibility, oversee business strategy, and manage operations.

Requirements

  • Proven Sales Process Expertise: Demonstrated ability to build and manage a trackable, repeatable, and measurable sales process, with a record of delivering consistent revenue growth. Skilled in using data to drive decisions, measure success, and refine approach over time.
  • Industry Experience or Adjacent Exposure: Experience in or familiarity with mechanical and electrical services, light manufacturing, repair/maintenance, distribution, or construction-related sectors is highly valuable.
  • Relationship-Driven and Community-Oriented: A natural connector who fosters long-term, trust-based relationships with customers, vendors, and the broader community through a thoughtful blend of professional engagement and authentic, personalized connection.
  • Prioritization and Delegation: Proven ability to prioritize and delegate tasks based on urgency and impact, addressing critical issues efficiently while staying focused on long-term goals.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as president of a small business in the mechanical and electrical services industry.
  • Determine and be responsible for all business strategy, operations, and P&L management.
  • Lead an experienced team of existing employee owners.
  • Collaborate on financial decisions with the bookkeeper regarding expenses, capital purchases, optimizing efficiencies, and developing business metrics.
  • Drive business growth through outbound sales efforts, pursuing project- and bid-based opportunities, and expanding into new B2B accounts.
  • Handle HR responsibilities, including staff disputes, employee performance evaluations, job reviews, raises, and bonuses.
  • Analyze current business methods and practices, and promote opportunities for team development and growth.
  • Invest in the local community and build strong relationships with customers, vendors, and partners.
  • Collaborate with Teamshares and fellow shareholders during the transition to employee ownership, coaching and partnering to instill an owner’s mindset.
  • Act as a growth leader, working with employee-owners to improve company operations and expand revenue opportunities.
