About The Position

The Network Automation Engineer will work with Google's Network Engineering and Network Repair Engineering teams to operate and improve a global core network that serves millions of Internet users. The role combines network engineering and software development to build and operate a highly automated repair framework, improve network reliability, and reduce operational costs. The engineer will help ensure network operations are safe and efficient by supporting performance monitoring, planned maintenance, hardware adjustments, and responses to connectivity issues. The position also involves working with evolving network technologies and supporting the systems that keep Google's products and services connected.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
At least 1 year of experience with network routing protocols, design, and troubleshooting with network equipment providers.
Experience planning and designing networks, such as multiple sites or multiple products.
Experience coding in Python, Go, or C.

Responsibilities

Automate the global core network repair lifecycle to minimize human intervention and reduce mean time to repair, human error, and operational costs.
Collaborate with software engineering teams to develop repair-focused systems and leverage and consolidate existing automation infrastructures.
Lead adoption and operationalization of new core network technologies to support repair evolution and use next-generation features such as spectrum efficiency and lower cost per byte.
Support and maintain Network Reliability Engineering software services to ensure the ongoing performance and reliability of the network repair framework.
Provide technical consultation on requirements and design for software applications related to network repair.
