About The Position

The Network Architect is responsible for designing, standardizing, and advancing Alnylam’s global network architecture across corporate offices, R&D laboratories, manufacturing/OT environments, and cloud platforms. This role ensures secure, resilient, and high-performance connectivity that supports scientific research, regulated systems, and global business operations. The position partners closely with Security, Infrastructure, Cloud, Workplace Technology, and managed service providers to deliver a modern, scalable, and compliant global network environment. This is a hybrid position and will primarily be based in Cambridge, MA.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of enterprise networking experience, including 3–5+ years in architecture roles.
  • Experience designing network solutions for multi-site, global organizations.
  • Strong technical expertise in enterprise routing, switching, SD WAN architecture, cloud networking (Azure), firewall and segmentation design, and enterprise wireless.
  • Familiarity with Zero Trust, SASE, and modern security frameworks.

Nice To Haves

  • CCNP or CCIE certification; AWS Networking Specialty.
  • CISSP certification.
  • Experience working with MSPs and global carriers.
  • Experience supporting regulated or manufacturing environments (biotech, pharma, healthcare, or related industries).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and governance of Alnylam’s global network architecture, standards, and multi-year modernization roadmap.
  • Define and maintain the global network reference architecture (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, SD-WAN, cloud networking).
  • Design secure hybrid and cloud network connectivity supporting AWS, Azure, GCP, M365, SaaS platforms, and high-performance research workloads
  • Architect resilient global connectivity, including redundancy, disaster recovery design, and uptime standards for 24×7 operations.
  • Provide architectural oversight for MSP delivered operations, network providers, and global site buildouts, ensuring adherence to standards.
  • Lead network architecture for site expansions, lab and manufacturing buildouts, and develop standardized global site design templates.
