About The Position

The Network Administrator installs, configures, and supports an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet system or a segment of a network system. They maintain network hardware and software, monitor the network to ensure availability to all system users, and perform necessary maintenance. This role may involve supervising other network support specialists and planning, coordinating, and implementing network security measures. The administrator is responsible for coordinating the development, implementation, and maintenance of local or wide area networks, maintaining the network's physical and logical structures, and supporting network software. They also analyze user support statistics, recommend improvements, and install, test, and maintain network hardware and software. Performance tuning and capacity planning are also key aspects of this role, as is preparing training courses and providing user support. The administrator assesses existing networks and solutions, makes recommendations based on product specifications and cybersecurity best practices, configures equipment, trains others, and documents solutions. They function as part of a team on larger projects or work independently on smaller ones, providing technical support and assisting with infrastructure solution design. This role requires experience in technical services, support, and network administration, including DHCP, DNS, routers, and firewalls.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on networking experience.
  • Experience in the technical services and support fields.
  • Experience in network administration (DHCP, DNS, routers, firewall, etc.).
  • General Information Technology: 10 Years
  • Cisco Routing and Switching: 5 Years
  • VLAN Management: 5 Years

Responsibilities

  • Responds to Tier 1 and 2 network and software support requests.
  • Communicates effectively with teammates and customers of varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Responds to all break/fix requests associated with network resources.
  • Designs extensions of and connections to the campus network.
  • Assists with configuration and deployment of new/replacement network hardware and communications infrastructure.
  • Maintains up-to-date project and architecture documentation.
  • Maintains up-to-date inventory and maintenance records.
  • Monitors network resources for faults and traffic anomalies.
  • Resolves connection issues between users and resources.
  • Maintains detailed change history of network changes.
  • Supports ITS Field Maintenance with communications' implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Supports team efforts to improve cybersecurity controls and defenses.
  • Supports team efforts for threat hunting and mitigation.
  • Manages time and resource constraints.
