About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on Network Administrator to support and maintain our IT infrastructure. This role is ideal for an early-to-mid-career networking professional who is comfortable managing day-to-day network operations, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining secure, reliable connectivity across the organization. The role will have primary responsibility for firewalls (Fortinet/FortiGate), switches, wireless networks, and general network health, working closely with internal IT staff and external vendors as needed. Bascom Hunter provides solutions to the Department of Defense (DoD) and Aerospace markets for Defense Electronics and Power & Control Systems.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship & ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance
  • 2–5 years of experience in a network administration or IT infrastructure role
  • Hands-on experience with Fortinet/FortiGate firewalls
  • Working knowledge of: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs Managed switches and basic routing VPN technologies (site-to-site and remote access)
  • Experience troubleshooting network and firewall issues in a production environment
  • Comfortable working on-site and supporting physical infrastructure

Responsibilities

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN)
  • Configure and support network switches, routers, and wireless access points
  • Perform routine network maintenance, upgrades, and patching
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, performance, and security issues
  • Configure, manage, and monitor Fortinet/FortiGate firewalls
  • Maintain firewall rules, VPNs, and network segmentation
  • Assist with incident response, security alerts, and remediation efforts
  • Support basic compliance and security best practices (e.g., access controls, logging)
  • Provide Tier 2 network support for internal users and systems
  • Support on-prem servers, networked devices, and peripherals
  • Work with vendors and service providers on connectivity and hardware issues
  • Maintain network documentation, diagrams, and configurations
  • Collaborate with IT leadership on network improvements and reliability
  • Assist with small infrastructure projects and office expansions
  • Participate in after-hours maintenance as required (limited, planned)
