About The Position

Shermco Industries is seeking a NETA Field Service Technician. This role involves traveling to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up, and collect data of low, medium, and high voltage (480 Volt to 600 kV) electrical systems. Responsibilities include instrument transformer tests, power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.), testing both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays, cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot), troubleshooting automatic transfer switches, and performing low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing. The role also includes moderately complex relay calibration and power metering. Technicians will rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • At least 2 or more years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing & troubleshooting.
  • Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be able to drive daily locally/regionally, and be available for periodic overnight travel.
  • Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stand for extended periods, drive regularly, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must be physically fit to crawl, climb, stand, walk and lift up to 75 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays and nights.
  • Must not currently or in the future require sponsorship to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Must be willing to travel; minimum 40%.

Nice To Haves

  • NETA Certification (I, II, III or IV) or similar desired.
  • Experience with PowerDB a plus.
  • Prefer an Associate’s degree from an accredited 2 year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or a EE Degree from an ABET accredited college, similar experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee).
  • Prefer OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training.
