About The Position

NEPM enriches people's lives through programs and services that educate, inspire, and entertain, fostering citizenship and culture, the joy of learning, and the power of diverse perspectives. DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW NEPM is a multi-media organization producing and broadcasting radio, TV and digital content to western Massachusetts from our studios in Springfield. Our public radio services offer a mix of NPR news, classical and jazz. JOB OVERVIEW Student will work alongside NEPM senior reporter to learn the basics and produce local sports stories to air on the radio and appear on NEPM's website and social channels. This position does not have a remote option; it is based at NEPM's office in downtown Springfield. INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW GBH internships provide students with valuable work experience and real-world knowledge across many different fields of study, from TV and radio production to web design, accounting, law, and other administrative arenas. INTERNSHIP PROGRAM Internship Dates: June 8th to August 14th. Minimum of 8 hours per week (all in one full day), could include an additional day if student schedule permits. Must be available to work on Friday evenings. Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wi-Fi. Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States.

Requirements

  • Interested in journalism and sports
  • Familiarity with news writing required
  • Knowledge of Canva and Adobe Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop) required
  • Ability to work under deadline
  • Collaborative approach and nature
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work and presentation
  • Willingness to learn
  • Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wi-Fi.
  • Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with interviewing preferred
  • Familiarity with digital audio production preferred
  • Access to a car and ability to drive preferred

Responsibilities

  • Reports to senior reporter and News Department Executive Editor
  • Work independently and to cover sports feature content in western Massachusetts.
  • Schedule and perform interviews in the studio, by telephone and in the field.
  • Report, voice and mix audio stories.
  • Draft digital stories.
  • Create social posts.
