About The Position

St. Christopher's Hospital for Children is seeking a Full time Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in our Nephrology department to join our team. This position is a combined Dialysis and Nephrology Nurse Practitioner role, with approximately 60% effort dedicated to dialysis services and 40% effort dedicated to outpatient and inpatient nephrology. In collaboration with the nephrology team, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) will serve as a clinical resource for outpatient hemodialysis, home peritoneal dialysis, and apheresis services. The NP will also evaluate patients in nephrology clinic and support the inpatient nephrology consult service as needed. The NP will participate in quality improvement initiatives, EMR optimization, research activities, staff and patient education, and nephrology program development. Responsibilities may evolve based on the needs of the division and department.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize advanced assessment skills to manage patients in the dialysis unit, nephrology clinic, and inpatient setting.
  • Perform and document patient assessments, collect and analyze clinical data, and formulate family-centered plans of care.
  • Perform advanced procedures within the approved Scope of Practice and credentialing process.
  • Evaluate and monitor treatment plans using current evidence and modify plans of care based on patient response and clinical outcomes.
  • Serve as an educational resource for patients, families, nursing staff, and the multidisciplinary care team.
  • Act as a consultant and liaison among nephrology, surgery, dialysis, apheresis, and other consulting services.
  • Participate in inpatient nephrology rounds and assist in the management of patients on the nephrology consult service as needed.
  • Support scholarly activities, including research, education, quality improvement, and program development initiatives.
  • Maintain required professional competencies and certifications.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and serve as a preceptor and mentor for nurses, nurse practitioners, students, and other healthcare providers.
  • Participate in regional and national pediatric nephrology nurse practitioner organizations to support continuing education, professional growth, and collaboration within the field.
  • Promote patient safety by identifying concerns, speaking up about safety issues, and participating in institutional safety and reporting processes.
  • Provide leadership in the design, implementation, and monitoring of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Utilize quality improvement data to support changes in nephrology nursing practice and healthcare delivery systems.
