About The Position

This is an Inpatient Neonatology Position at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – College Station. The role offers a 7 On / 7 Off Schedule, providing excellent work-life balance with approximately 62 hours per pay period. On-site coverage is from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM with phone call coverage only from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM Monday-Friday. Weekend coverage is limited to 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM while on service, with no overnight call requirements. The PA will manage approximately 16 patients per day. Responsibilities include neonatal patient management, hospital admissions, newborn rounding, circumcisions, and coordination of care with multidisciplinary teams. The role operates within a collaborative care model with Neonatologists, Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs), Registered Nurses, Social Workers, and dedicated unit support staff. Structured onboarding with support from experienced APPs is provided. There are opportunities to teach nursing staff, students, and families, and to participate in precepting and educational activities, as well as expand neonatal and inpatient medicine expertise.

Requirements

  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of Texas
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA)
  • Grad of an Accredited Program
  • Less than 1 Year of Experience
  • Know the information and techniques to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions

  • Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
  • Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or related treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
  • Formulates and implements comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care. Collaborates with physicians and team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient's response to health care and the effectiveness of care.
  • Counsels patients and families about medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients on drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
  • Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient's treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
  • Provides consultation level services for conditions/problems related to the Provider’s specialty and training.
  • Performs invasive procedures specific to scope of practice (and proficiency of the provider) as delegated by supervising Physician.
  • May conduct hospital rounds, assist with admissions and discharges, and provide on-call support.
