The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) responsible for providing comprehensive, evidence-based care to newborn infants admitted to the Level II Special Care Nursery and Newborn Nursery at UTMB Angleton Danbury Campus. The practitioner functions as an independent provider within the scope of licensure and hospital privileges while collaborating with neonatologists, pediatricians, obstetricians, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals. The NNP/PNP provides direct patient care, attends high-risk deliveries including cesarean sections, stabilizes critically ill newborns, coordinates transfers to tertiary NICUs when indicated, and supports the continued development of the Level II nursery through quality improvement, staff education, protocol development, and family-centered care. The practitioner will also collaborate with UTMB Galveston neonatologists utilizing tele-neonatology and other remote consultation resources to ensure timely access to subspecialty expertise.
