About The Position

AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today’s five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected. This position is based in our satellite production facility in Midland, TX, with full relocation provided. AST Space Mobile is seeking a highly experienced NDT Technician III to serve as the technical authority for non-destructive testing operations across satellite manufacturing programs. This role is responsible for developing, qualifying, and overseeing NDT processes used in the inspection of complex aerospace structures, including large phased-array antennas and composite assemblies. The NDT Technician III ensures compliance with all applicable standards while supporting engineering, production, and quality teams.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • NDT Level III Certification in accordance with NAS-410
  • 5–8+ years of NDT experience in aerospace or high-reliability manufacturing
  • Deep knowledge of: Ultrasonic, Radiographic, Penetrant, and Magnetic Particle Testing
  • Deep knowledge of: Aerospace materials (composites, metals, bonded structures)
  • Strong understanding of industry standards: NAS-410
  • Strong understanding of industry standards: ASTM
  • Strong understanding of industry standards: Aerospace quality systems

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with large aerospace structures or satellite systems
  • Experience supporting government or defense programs
  • Prior experience leading NDT teams or programs

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Level III authority for NDT methods
  • Develop, approve, and maintain NDT procedures and techniques
  • Interpret codes, standards, and specifications (NAS-410, ASTM, etc.)
  • Provide technical guidance and decision-making on inspection results
  • Ensure NDT processes meet aerospace and regulatory requirements
  • Audit and monitor inspection activities for compliance and accuracy
  • Support customer and regulatory audits
  • Train, mentor, and certify Level I and Level II NDT technicians
  • Maintain certification programs in compliance with NAS-410
  • Evaluate technician competency and performance
  • Perform and interpret complex inspections on critical structures
  • Lead root cause analysis of defects and failures
  • Partner with engineering to resolve structural and material issues
  • Develop new NDT techniques for emerging satellite technologies
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Optimize inspection processes for efficiency and reliability
