About The Position

FMI Composites is seeking an experienced NDT Specialist to join our Quality Lab team. This is an hourly, non-exempt position responsible for performing and overseeing advanced radiographic and ultrasonic inspections of composite materials and components to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications. The NDT Specialist will assist in developing inspection techniques, interpreting inspection results, training personnel, and maintaining compliance with applicable codes, standards, and radiation safety requirements. This role also requires strong communication skills and close collaboration with team members, customers, and manufacturing departments to support quality and production objectives.

Requirements

  • ASNT or NAS-410 Level 2 in Radiography (RT) with composites experience.
  • At least 80 hrs of RT classroom training
  • Documented training and experience in digital radiographic inspection, with a minimum of 6 months with the last 12 months
  • Strong knowledge of nondestructive testing methods, including ultrasonic (UT) and radiographic (RT).
  • Understanding of large‑scale fabrication processes used in manufacturing environments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of composite structures and their associated manufacturing practices.
  • Proficient in interpreting detail and assembly drawings used throughout production workflows.
  • Well‑versed in applicable manufacturing codes, standards, and regulations for assigned operational areas.
  • Able to manage shifting priorities and multitask effectively in fast‑paced environments.
  • Skilled in maintaining accurate, complete, and organized records.
  • Cooperative team contributor with the ability to work collaboratively.

  • Associate’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and radiation protection standards.
  • Assists in developing, writing, approving, and maintaining radiographic procedures in accordance with ASNT, NAS-410, and customer requirements, and works with a Level 3 NDT specialist for final sign offs
  • Lead implementation of NDT procedures for UT and RT
  • Perform and interpret complex inspections, including digital radiography (DR) and Ultrasonic testing (UT) at established production rates in order to meet On-Time-Delivery metrics.
  • Participate in other quality assurance assignments as required.
  • Develop and document NDT techniques in accordance with program requirements.
  • Perform and document NDT‑related investigations with clear, accurate written reports.
  • Adhere to test procedures, including reviewing referenced codes, specifications, and standards.
  • Train and certify Level 1 and Level 2 radiography personnel and provide ongoing technical guidance.
  • Set up and calibrate equipment to ensure proper operation and test accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate daily labor entries and required records, ensuring full traceability.
  • Actively participate in safety and housekeeping initiatives to support facility standards.
  • Serve as the technical leader for radiographic inspection of composite materials and assemblies.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and prepare detailed reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for non-conforming materials.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize inspection processes and improve product quality.
