About The Position

S&ME is hiring an NDT/NDE Technician for its Metals team in Wilmington, North Carolina. The role involves fieldwork inspecting structural steel, including bolted and welded connections, to help ensure the structural integrity and safety of projects. Fieldwork may require climbing steel structures such as buildings, cell phone towers, and water tanks to heights exceeding 200 feet, using fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems. The technician conducts inspections and non-destructive testing, with a significant portion of field inspection time spent performing ultrasonic inspection of welds and/or magnetic particle testing of welds. The role also includes managing testing assignments across projects, maintaining and calibrating equipment, managing field and laboratory equipment inventories and calibration records, participating in quality systems audits, and preparing detailed reports. Work is primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions and may involve 50 or more hours per week during peak workload, off-shift and weekend work, and travel—typically out of town and/or overnight—as project needs arise. The position requires use of company-provided PPE, routine lifting and carrying of 40–50 pounds, and safely handling tools and maneuvering equipment on active construction sites. Pay is competitive and based on experience.
