About The Position

S&ME is seeking a dedicated NDT/NDE Technician for our Metals team in New Albany, Indiana. This role is crucial for ensuring the structural integrity and safety of projects by visually inspecting structural steel, including bolted and welded connections. Fieldwork may involve safely climbing steel structures like buildings, cell phone towers, and water tanks to heights exceeding 200 feet, utilizing fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems. The position involves conducting inspections and employing non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic testing (UT) and magnetic particle testing (MT) of welds. Responsibilities include managing testing assignments, maintaining and calibrating testing equipment, and creating detailed reports. This role may require working over 50 hours per week during peak times, as well as off-shift and weekend work.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of NDT/NDE metals testing experience OR an associate degree in a closely related field
  • Active industry-related certifications: AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or working towards AMPP Coating Inspector Level I or II
  • Achievement of ASNT Level II certification per ASNT-SNT-TC-1A in at least one method
  • Willing and able to perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment
  • Willing and able to work the majority of the time outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Willing and able to climb heights over 200 feet
  • Willing and able to routinely lift and carry 40-50 lbs. of materials and equipment
  • Willing and able to safely handle field tools and maneuver equipment on active construction sites
  • Willing and able to work outside of normal business hours and travel (typically out-of-town and/or overnight) as project needs arise
  • Must comply with Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
  • Must have valid employment eligibility (I-9).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Safety, DDC, NDT, and Radiation Training, including the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems.
  • Additional certifications: ICC certification in Building Inspections and/or Structural Steel Inspection
  • Level II for UT certification
  • Level II for PT, MT certifications

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect structural steel, including bolted and welded connections.

  • Conduct inspections and deploy non-destructive testing methods, such as ultrasonic testing (UT) and magnetic particle testing (MT) of welds.
  • Manage testing assignments across projects.
  • Maintain testing equipment in working order and calibration, including managing field and laboratory equipment inventories, formal calibration records, and participating in quality systems audits.
  • Craft detailed reports to effectively communicate findings.
