About The Position

S&ME is seeking a dedicated NDT/NDE Technician for their Metals team in Wilmington, North Carolina. This role involves ensuring the structural integrity and safety of projects through visual inspection of structural steel, including bolted and welded connections. Fieldwork may require climbing steel structures up to 200 feet using fall protection equipment. The position offers a dynamic work environment where no two days are alike.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of NDT/NDE metals testing experience OR an associate degree in a closely related field
  • Active industry-related certifications: AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or working towards AMPP Coating Inspector Level I or II
  • Achievement of ASNT Level II certification per ASNT-SNT-TC-1A in at least one method
  • Willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as: Working the majority of the time outdoors in varying weather conditions, Climbing heights over 200 feet, Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs. of materials and equipment, Safely handling field tools and maneuvering equipment on active construction sites
  • Candidates must comply with our Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
  • Only candidates with valid employment eligibility (I-9) will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Safety, DDC, NDT, and Radiation Training, including the use of fall protection equipment and personal fall arrest systems
  • Additional certifications: ICC certification in Building Inspections and/or Structural Steel Inspection
  • Level II for UT certification
  • Level II for PT, MT certifications

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections and deploy non-destructive testing methods to uphold impeccable quality standards.
  • Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) duties such as ultrasonic inspection (UT) of welds and/or magnetic particle testing (MT) of welds.
  • Juggle testing assignments across projects.
  • Maintain testing equipment in working order and calibration; can include managing field and laboratory equipment inventories, formal calibration records, and participating in quality systems audits.
  • Craft detailed reports to effectively communicate findings.
