About The Position

Element Hartford is seeking an experienced Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) Level II or Level III to serve as a working technical resource within our NDT operation. This position will be responsible for performing wet continuous and residual magnetic particle inspection on aerospace and other high-specification components while also developing, reviewing, and maintaining MPI technique plans and inspection documentation. This is a hands-on working position. The successful candidate will spend the majority of their time performing inspections, developing techniques, troubleshooting inspection requirements, and supporting the technical needs of the MPI operation. The position is well suited for an experienced Level II looking to expand their technical responsibilities or a Level III who enjoys remaining directly involved in daily inspection operations.

Requirements

  • Current or recent NDT Magnetic Particle Level II certification in accordance with NAS-410 or an equivalent customer-approved standard.
  • Demonstrated experience performing magnetic particle inspection in an aerospace, manufacturing, or other high-specification environment.
  • Experience with wet continuous and residual MPI.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Ability to develop or modify MPI technique plans.
  • Strong understanding of magnetization methods, field direction, particle application, demagnetization, and indication evaluation.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining production requirements and inspection quality.
  • Extensive practical experience with MPI technique development and inspection.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable aerospace specifications and NDT requirements.
  • Ability to technically review and approve MPI techniques where authorized.
  • Experience supporting audits, procedure development, training, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to mentor Level II personnel and provide technical direction to the MPI operation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform magnetic particle inspections in accordance with customer specifications, internal procedures, applicable specifications, and approved techniques.
  • Perform both wet continuous and residual magnetic particle testing.
  • Set up and operate MPI equipment, including magnetizing units, coils, prods, central conductors, and associated equipment.
  • Verify equipment settings and inspection parameters prior to and during testing.
  • Properly prepare, magnetize, apply particles, inspect, demagnetize, and clean parts as required.
  • Identify, evaluate, and document relevant indications in accordance with applicable specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Perform inspections on complex aerospace components and geometries requiring multiple magnetization directions.
  • Ensure adequate magnetic field strength and appropriate coverage of required inspection areas.
  • Perform required system performance checks and verify equipment is suitable for use.
  • Maintain accurate inspection and processing records.
  • Develop and maintain MPI technique sheets/plans for new and existing parts.
  • Determine appropriate magnetizing methods, shot locations, current settings, field directions, particle application, and inspection coverage.
  • Establish techniques for complex geometries and parts requiring multiple magnetization directions.
  • Review customer specifications, drawings, purchase orders, and applicable NDT requirements to determine inspection requirements.
  • Evaluate existing techniques and make revisions when required to improve inspection coverage, repeatability, or compliance.
  • Support validation and qualification of new MPI techniques.
  • Maintain technique documentation in accordance with Element and customer requirements.
