About The Position

Hexcel is seeking an NDT Level I for their Kent, WA USA location. This NDT Technician will be responsible for performing ultrasonic testing of composite structures according to established written customer specifications and Hexcel ultrasonic techniques and procedures. The individual will be certified Level I per aerospace industry specification requirements. The role involves inspecting composite structures for internal defects, potentially interfacing with customers, preparing parts for testing, operating robotic scanning equipment, manually testing parts, performing defect characterization and evaluation, interpreting test results, writing reports, maintaining equipment, and monitoring automated ultrasonic systems. The technician will also train for certifications under the direct observation of Ultrasonic Level 2 or Level 3 personnel.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years’ related experience and/or training in aerospace or manufacturing preferred.
  • Experience with inspection of composites a plus.
  • Must be able to attend classes in Ultrasonic Testing and shall certify Level 1 within 13 months and Level 2 within 22 months of hire. (In accordance with NAS410-2).
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures or government regulations.
  • Effective report writing and presentation skills.
  • Willingness to work first, second, and third shifts (as assigned).
  • U.S. citizen, U.S. national, a person lawfully admitted for permanent residence, a temporary resident under sections 210(a) or 245(A) of the Act, a person admitted in refugee status, a person granted asylum.

Responsibilities

  • Inspection of composite structures for internal defects per applicable standards, codes and specifications.
  • Occasional interface with customers regarding defects and/or details of tests.
  • Stage and prepare parts for test; operate robotic scanning equipment; Manually test parts with hand yokes and/or contact probes.
  • Perform defect characterization and evaluation.
  • Interpret test results; write and enter reports in computer; maintain equipment, clean area.
  • Monitor automated ultrasonic systems as directed by senior personnel.
  • Define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Train for certification(s) under the direct observation of Ultrasonic Level 2 or Level 3 personnel.
