About The Position

Valmont is seeking an NDT Inspector – Intermediate to evaluate the assembly of fabricated materials by dimensional checks, visual inspection of welds and conduct nondestructive testing by ultrasonic, mag particle, and liquid penetrant processes. This role requires knowledge of working under a fully certified Level II Inspector and is responsible for the coordination of the Quality area to meet production goals. The inspector will complete daily paperwork, demonstrate a commitment to quality, productivity, safety, and environmental policies, and ensure effective communication within the work group for teamwork and a productive work environment. The position involves working with the production supervisor to maintain workflow and report issues, as well as evaluating examination results to ensure material meets contract specifications. The NDT Inspector is also responsible for generating and maintaining NDT reports and records for company and contractors.

Requirements

  • Level II NDT certifications or ability to obtain Level II certification within an agreed upon time by Valmont.
  • A high awareness for safety at all times.
  • High School diploma and 5+ years of work/educational experience OR Associate’s Degree with 2+ years’ experience OR Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 2 years of experience in a fabricated steel environment.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematic calculations, including conversion of fractions to decimals.
  • Ability to use basic measuring tools, such as tape measure, calipers, fillet weld gauges, and levels (digital and conventional) to ensure dimensional accuracy.
  • Ability to operate NDT testing equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively with plant employees, supervisors, management, and customers.
  • Ability to prioritize work to complete deadlines.
  • Ability to work through problems with the minimum amount of assistance from the lead person or supervisor.
  • Ability to work timely and expeditiously to deliver an on-time result without errors.
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 years of experience in a fabricated steel environment.
  • Associate’s Degree in NDT from an accredited school.
  • SNT-TC-1A NDT Level II in UT, VT, MT, and PT.
  • AWS CWI certification.
  • Competence in basic quality assurance disciplines including the use of dimensional inspection and gauging equipment.
  • AWS certification.
  • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.

Responsibilities

  • Testing and evaluation of products to ensure conformance to company and customer specifications with absolute integrity.
  • Making decisions regarding codes (including AWS D1.1) and specifications.
  • Interpreting reports for NDT and quality acceptance.
  • Actively mentoring Entry level NDT Inspectors, including monitoring and documenting OJT progress.
  • Rejecting material or stopping work in process to minimize financial loss and risk of customer dissatisfaction.
  • Working under production conditions with accurate performance and completion of work within set time limits.
  • Accountability and responsibility for essential tools and equipment provided, including maintenance and calibration.
  • Actively participating in department safety, demonstrating excellent safety practices and behaviors that conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining timely and consistent attendance.
  • Completing daily paperwork.
  • Coordinating the Quality area to meet production goals.
  • Communicating within the work group ensuring teamwork and a productive work environment.
  • Working with the production supervisor to maintain workflow of the area and report issues to the supervisor.
  • Evaluating examination results and determining if material meets contract specifications.
