About The Position
Performs semi-skilled inspection work, using a thorough understanding of and ability to perform all phases of the nondestructive examination process. The position supports nondestructive inspections, shop work, equipment and building maintenance, recordkeeping, and safe work practices. The employee must demonstrate the skills and abilities in the job description, or satisfactory progression toward them, before the end of the probationary period, and demonstrate the skills and abilities required for promotion to second class within one year of the initial hiring date.
Requirements
- A two-year technical degree or certificate, or two years of experience with a qualified contractor or service provider.
- Through a combination of education and/or experience, sufficient knowledge and skill to perform the listed duties and responsibilities.
- Demonstrate the skills and abilities in the job description, or satisfactory progression toward them, before the end of the probationary period.
- Demonstrate the skills and abilities required for promotion to second class within one year from the initial hiring date.
- Complete the online pre-employment assessment and achieve a "recommended" result.
- Physical demand level is Medium: exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Responsibilities
- Assist with inspections using one or more accepted tests: Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Ultrasonic, Visual, video equipment, an alloy analyzer, and a hardness tester.
- Perform general parts cleaning and painting.
- Perform maintenance work on the Central Machine Shop building and equipment.
- Assist employees of equal or higher classification with work assignments as directed.
- Report irregularities or abnormal conditions, take notes, and keep required records.
- Perform all work in accordance with safety regulations and acceptable shop practices.
- Support AEP's cultural goals and expectations.
- Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.
