About The Position

This position is for an ND Operator at Steel Energy. The role involves organizing the rig crew, conducting safety meetings, managing materials and equipment, driving the rig to the work site, operating the rig and equipment, and directing the crew in setting up and preparing the rig for tasks. The operator will guide the crew in safely performing contracted services, documenting services, billable supplies, and time. They will use specialized equipment to guide instruments, tubing, and casing down holes, maintain a clean and organized working environment, and ensure equipment is in proper working order. Duties also include cleaning, fueling, repairing, and maintaining workover rig equipment.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of Floor Hand experience
  • 1-2 years of Derrick hand experience
  • Advanced Problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal skills and verbal / written English communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to run pipe Tally’s, figure pipe weights, keep good pipe counts, know how to space out pumping units, run and pull ESP’s, know pipe torques specifications, pick up and operate power swivel and principles of operating mud pumps.
  • Supervisory level of well control training
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and lift objects of up to seventy-five pounds (75#) for extended periods of time.
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit while working either indoors or outdoors.
  • Ability to pass company’s pre-employment exam that also consists of a drug screen and physical.
  • Acceptable criminal history
  • Ability to read, write and speak English to the extent that they can understand verbal and written instructions as well as give verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to use simple mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals (addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication) to make job related calculations.

Nice To Haves

  • Class B CDL license to drive workover rig (not required-but encouraged)

Responsibilities

  • Organize the rig crew (Floor Hands and Derrick Hands).
  • Conduct Job Safety Meetings.
  • Delegate the collection of materials and equipment needed to perform contracted services.
  • Drive the Rig to the work site.
  • Operate the rig and equipment.
  • Direct the crew to set-up and prepare the rig for tasks.
  • Direct assigned floor hands and derrick hands to safely perform service tasks.
  • Document services performed, billable supplies used, and time elapsed.
  • Use specialized equipment to guide instruments, tubing, and casing down holes.
  • Keep the working environment clean and organized.
  • Ensure all equipment used is in proper working order.
  • Clean, fuel, repair, and maintain workover rig equipment, including greasing and changing oils and lubricants.
  • Be available to work beyond the traditional 8-hour workday, including Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays.
  • Perform maintenance services and repairs on oil and gas wells as part of a three-to-five-person crew.
  • Lead daily pre-job tailgate safety meetings and write JHAs.
  • Inspect and document all lift equipment on location.
  • Lead the crew in rigging up and rigging down the workover Rig safely.
  • Perform and document post rig-up inspections.
  • Pull and lay down Rods, Tubing, and Casing by operating rig controls.
  • Guide and manage the rig crew daily.
  • Assist in training and mentoring SSE employees and floor hands.
  • Assist Rig Manager in various tasks.
  • Drive company vehicles such as the Crew pick-up truck and the Rig.
  • Perform workshop and SWS Yard maintenance and repair work.
  • Assist Steel Energy Services management personnel.
  • Prepare rig tickets correctly and in a timely fashion, including correct pricing, re-billable items, and managing crew hours.
  • Position the rig, raise, and lower the mast.
  • Direct other crew members in rigging up guy-lines, various equipment, and tools.
  • Lift, remove, install, and operate wellhead, pumping units matting boards, tubing, rods, casing, rod strippers, polish rods, stripper heads, and other production equipment safely.
  • Comply with the client’s and the company’s safe operating procedures.
  • Participate in company-provided training in rig operations, Standard Operating Procedures, and safe work procedures.
