About The Position

We are looking for a part-time subcontractor to join the Refugee and Immigrant Services team and help the immigrant community navigate the social services landscape to access the resources they need to maintain self-sufficiency and well-being. For the past 11 years, the ISAC program has offered education, information, resource connection, and support to immigrants living in Allegheny County. We now have the exciting opportunity to expand our program into Washington County. The person hired for this position will help us grow the ISAC program in Charleroi, PA, by offering weekly in‑person support. During office hours, the JFCS Navigator will meet with clients to help them problem‑solve, coordinate and access community resources, and receive education on how to navigate services. The goal is to increase clients’ confidence and skills so they can achieve greater self‑sufficiency. Onboarding and initial training will take place in person at the JFCS office in Pittsburgh. Regular supervision and ongoing trainings will be conducted virtually.

Requirements

  • Fluency in reading, writing & speaking in English.
  • Knowledge of the Charleroi area, community resources in Washington County and familiarity with government safety net programs including but not limited to SNAP, WIC, and public utility savings programs.
  • Strong time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working with immigrants and/or other underserved communities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the JFCS ISAC team.
  • Data entry skills and the ability to learn the program’s web-based database.
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality, interpretation protocols, PA Mandated Reporter regulations, JFCS and ISAC policies.
  • Driver’s license and dependable car required.
  • Successful completion of FBI, PA criminal background check and child abuse clearances are required before beginning employment.

  • Proficiency in another language is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with clients in-person on a weekly basis to help them understand mail, call service providers, complete benefits applications, as well as make referrals to other service providers such as doctors, schools, and specialists.
  • Communicate with service providers and government employees to advocate for clients and ensure clients receive services they are eligible for.
  • Do outreach in Charleroi and nearby municipalities to increase awareness of the services JFCS provides through the ISAC program.
  • Follow strict interpreting/confidentiality guidelines as instructed.
  • Complete data entry and documentation for all activities on behalf of clients as directed, including any telephone communications and any incidental information learned in a timely manner.
  • Communicate to supervisor on client and activities on a regular basis or as requested.
  • Participate in staff development and training opportunities as directed.
  • Be alert to cross-cultural interference in dealing with professional community, staff, and clients and behave in a culturally sensitive manner to be able to respond appropriately to the cultural characteristics of the clients.
  • Participate in occasional tabling and other community events in the Charleroi area.
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
