The Naval Architect and Marine Engineer III will work closely with team members and will require no guidance to perform the job functions other than tasking from the direct supervisor. This role involves preparing, modifying, and reviewing scantling and outfitting drawings and analyses against applicable class society and regulatory rules. The engineer will perform detailed design/drafting of marine craft structures, plans, and outfitting for new shipbuilding and repair/conversion projects. Responsibilities include performing general structural calculations using 1st principal methods and/or finite element analysis, reviewing construction packages and 3D models from software like FORAN or Ship Constructor, and interpreting regulatory and classification society rules. The position also requires performing heavy lift and stability calculations, using software such as GHS, Flow 3D, and femap/Nastran, and providing solutions to complex structural and shipbuilding problems. The engineer will assist in the integration of design in Production, work closely with shipyard personnel, and support production concerning buildability and compliance issues. The role requires the ability to perform job duties independently and mentor junior engineers. May have team leadership responsibilities over employees and will have mentorship responsibilities over junior employees. This position will be reported to the Structure Design Group Manager.
