NRDC's Nature Department is seeking graduate interns to support projects and priorities for its newly created Nature Innovation Hub. The Hub works to make it harder to destroy nature and easier to conserve it by changing the economics of nature finance, with an emphasis on durable policy mechanisms such as tax law and permanent finance. It focuses on re-envisioning funding structures, laws, and policies to strengthen permanent U.S. nature finance and reduce subsidies for extractive development and pollution. Interns may contribute to projects involving nature tax and finance legislation, oil and gas revenue policy reforms, invasive species policy, and agricultural investments and incentives. Work on nature tax and finance legislation may include policy papers and research. Key deliverables include policy papers, literature reviews of economic and policy research, and two-page summaries of legislation and issues for policymakers. The internship is paid, with a total stipend of $4,000 for 140 hours of work, paid bi-weekly during the assignment. Interns may choose a schedule of 7 weeks at 20 hours per week, 10 weeks at 14 hours per week, or 14 weeks at 10 hours per week. The role uses a hybrid work model, with semester interns expected to work onsite one day per week, depending on school schedules. The posting identifies New York City and Washington, DC as office options; the position summary also mentions Chicago.
